This research includes the mapping of the EU legal framework and intermediaries' practices regarding copyright content moderation, the evaluation and measuring of the impact of moderation practices and technologies on access and diversity, and a set of policy recommendations. Our recommendations touch on the following topics: the definition of ''online content-sharing service provider''; the recognition and operationalisation of user rights; the complementary nature of complaint and redress safeguards; the scope of permissible preventive filtering; the clarification of the relationship between Art. 17 of the new Copyright Directive and the Digital Services Act; monetisation and restrictive content moderation actions; recommender systems and copyright content moderation; transparency and data access for researchers; trade secret protection and transparency of content moderation systems; the relationship between the copyright acquis, the Digital Services Act and the upcoming Artificial Intelligence Act; and human competences in copyright content moderation. Keywords Copyright Á Content moderation Á Intermediaries Á Platforms Á Digital Services Act Á Digital single market 1 This Opinion is a condensed and updated version of a conclusions and recommendations report summarizing the results of the research carried out in the context of Work Package 6 on intermediaries' practices regarding copyright content moderation and removal, as part of the reCreating Europe project, which received funding from the European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No. 870626. 2 Quintais et al. While the book provides rigorous and interesting research regarding modern Russian society, the reviewer considers it too broad at times, sometimes suggesting outdated case studies. More particularly, instead of focusing on the religious movement of rodnoverie or the process underlying the transformation of the CPSU into the modern CPRF, the authors could have referred to more modern cases. However, according to the reviewer, the collection is one of the most fascinating and profound studies on Russia that has been carried out lately.

Research paper thumbnail of The Hockey Girls. The creation of a new collective subject: sisterhood and the empowerment of women

Feminist Media Studies, Feb 14, 2022

The vindication of female sport at an international level and the visibility of this subject in t... more The vindication of female sport at an international level and the visibility of this subject in the media provided the groundwork for the release of the fictional television series Les de l’hoquei/The Hockey Girls (TV3, 2019–2020; Netflix, 2019). After a successful first season on TV3, it was included in the Netflix catalogue. Through content analysis of its first season and an ad-hoc analysis sheet, we conclude that this series promotes equality by creating a new collective subject that unites men and women. We also find that it builds new models of masculinity, female empowerment, sisterhood and better relations between genders. Therefore, the series moves away from post-feminist postulates and shows that it is still necessary to establish equality between men and women.

Scholars are addressing the linguistic response to the social and psychological situation in different countries in the era of coronavirus. Thus, the Editorial Board has created a forum for specialists to communicate (in writing), one which makes it possible to provide information about their sources on Covid-19 and illustrate theoretical materials. The participants chose to analyse different aspects of language during the pandemic; medical terminology and its relevant vocabulary were the same for all countries. The conversation goes beyond the scope of linguistics, as it is important for the researchers to characterise measures taken by governments to combat Covid-19 and the public's reaction to them as reflected through language. Additionally, the authors focus on spontaneous linguistic responses to the pandemic in the form of language games, metaphors, and references to historical memory of combatting disasters. The pandemic has also caused long-standing forms of speech communication to change. Researchers from different European countries have took part: Arto Mustajoki

In other words, social networks remain one of the few places where public opinion can be formed and where access for many citizens exists. In the absence of organized opposition, independent media, and elections, discussions on social networks are often the only way to get a glimpse into “public” opinion, or at least that of the users.

The conversation was moderated by Irina Vepreva and Tatiana Itskovich (Ural Federal University Yekaterinburg, Russia).
