Your assessment questions answered…

What’s the best career aptitude test?

There’s no single “best” career inventory. The right one depends on your goals for taking the assessment.

Depending on your needs, you may wish to take the Strong Interest Inventory or the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI®). The Strong presents you with potential career options aligned with your vocational interests, while the MBTI® presents career paths based on your personality type.

Is there an assessment that can tell me what to do for a living?

I wish! There isn’t any assessment that can tell you exactly what to do for a living. That said, the Strong Interest Inventory provides a wealth of information to help you make informed, confident decisions about your career.

When professionals are undecided, I typically recommend that they start with the Strong Interest Inventory because the report lists the 10 careers you’re most aligned with. It’s a great starting point for exploration and provides a foundation for our coaching work.

Is there an assessment to measure motivation?

There is. The Enneagram is a powerful tool for understanding your core motivations, along with your fears, behaviors, and worldviews.

I use the iEQ9 Integrative Enneagram Questionnaire with clients because it’s the most accurate typing test on the market, with an accuracy rate of over 95%, and is considered the official Enneagram test for real people development.

How do you measure emotional intelligence?

There are several ways to assess emotional intelligence (EQ). The EQ-i 2.0, which I’m certified to administer, is an industry-leading, research-backed assessment tool that enables you to quickly identify your EQ strengths and areas for improvement.

Can assessments help with burnout?

Very much so. Burnout is a major pain point for tech leaders, executives, and high-performers, and tools like the EQ-i 2.0 and the Enneagram help you pinpoint what’s driving your stress and burnout.

The EQ-i 2.0 measures areas like stress tolerance, impulse control, and self-regard. It can show where pressure is impacting your behavior and decision-making.

The Enneagram identifies your core motivations and triggers, which helps you understand what drives your burnout (i.e., overcommitment, perfectionism, or conflict avoidance).

Completing either or both of these assessments can help you understand what’s causing your burnout and how to better manage it. In conjunction with coaching, we turn those insights into actionable strategies for managing stress, prioritizing your energy, and preventing burnout before it escalates.

Do you offer 360 feedback reviews?

Yes! The EQ 360, which I’m certified to administer, has a powerful 360-degree component that allows you to compare your self-perception with feedback from those around you.

You can receive anonymous input from colleagues, managers, direct reports, clients, friends, family, and whoever else you choose.

How do assessments tie into leadership development?

Instead of operating in a vacuum, assessments provide leaders with real data on how they currently show up and where they can level up. We use these results to make coaching concrete, drive self-awareness, and improve team dynamics. All of this leads to more empowered, confident leaders and higher-performing teams.

Are there assessments to help with intercultural skills?

Absolutely. Several assessments are specifically designed to support the development of intercultural skills.

The Intercultural Development Inventory assesses your capability to shift cultural perspective and appropriately adapt your behavior to cultural differences and commonalities.

The Intercultural Conflict Style Inventory helps you learn research-backed techniques to improve communication and resolve conflict across cultural boundaries.

What assessments do you use with speaking clients versus coaching clients?

For speaking engagements, assessments can be incorporated into workshops, training programs, and retreats to elevate the experience and provide attendees with a concrete takeaway. They provide insights attendees can apply immediately to improve communication, collaboration, and leadership impact. Depending on the topic and audience, we’ll decide the most helpful tool and whether debriefs should be conducted as a group or individually.

For individual coaching clients, I provide one optional, complimentary assessment or inventory as part of all my comprehensive coaching programs.

Can you customize assessment packages for off-sites or retreats?

Absolutely! I offer tailored assessments for leadership teams that are conducting off-sites, retreats, and other training programs. I’ve administered and debriefed more inventories than I can count.

How do I determine which assessment is right for my team or me?

We’ll work together to understand your goals, challenges, and desired outcomes. From there, I’ll recommend the tool that will provide the most meaningful insight and the greatest impact for your specific needs.

Do you offer assessments without a speaking engagement or coaching program?

I don’t offer assessments as a standalone service because we need to first clarify your goals, determine which tool makes sense for you, and then apply the insights to your career and leadership.

When you’re ready, schedule a no-obligation consultation to explore whether working together is your best next step.

How much time do assessments take to complete?

Most assessments take 30 to 45 minutes to complete. There are no right or wrong answers when using these tools. You simply show up as your fabulous self.

What happens after I complete an assessment? How do I use the results?

Because I primarily work with tech executives, I treat these tools as ways to generate new sets of data that we turn into actionable insights. We use the results to develop customized action plans, realign leadership behavior, and integrate learnings into coaching and the workplace.

What’s different about your approach to these tools?

Because I have a full coaching practice and busy speaking schedule, I didn’t learn these tools years ago and then put them on a shelf to collect dust. I’m constantly interpreting assessments and inventories with real clients.

Additionally, I work with The Myers-Briggs Company (yes, the one behind the MBTI®!) as a consultant and facilitator. I train other practitioners on how to best use assessments and inventories. Put simply, I am a subject matter expert in applying assessments and inventories to real-world leadership and career development issues.
