In May of 2013, at the annual meeting of the American Psychiatric Association the releasing of the Fifth Edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5) occurred. This date marked the culmination of work spanning a decade to revise the criteria for diagnosing and classifying mental disorders (American Psychiatric Association, 2013). The DSM-5 is the latest edition of the DSM that is a significantly important tool for clinical psychologists when diagnosing clients and for determining effective and proven treatment such as psychotherapies.
