Sojourner Truth - Inspiration for Women

I've decided to make a community that will be used to inspire, advise, and create pride in women and our accomplishments. In my opinion, we are living in a society that focuses too much on women's beauty and the conformity of that beauty, and not on the fact that our beauty is unique and grows from the inside out. We are artists, poets, writers, mothers, designers, sports fanatics, activists, volunteers, bread winners, nurturers, singers, gamers, you name it, we are it. We are human beings unto ourselves, and no one has the right to validate us based on superficial requirements.

For those unfamiliar with Sojourner Truth, she was a northern slave who ran away from her "master". Once emancipated, she spoke with authority and conviction against injustices and cruelties towards her race, and also was a major proponent for women's rights. She spoke proudly of her own strength and accomplishments, and by implication, those of all women.

That is my goal. I want all women, including myself, to find strength and pride in ourselves for our individuality.

I'm not big on rules, but feel I should make everyone aware of basic courtesy:

1. Absolutely NO flaming will be tolerated! None! If you're a big meanie to any member, then I will boot your butt pronto.
2. Respect the opinions of other women, even if they're contrary to yours.
3. This isn't a forum for man-bashing. Of course the topic of men may be discussed, but we are not haters.
4. All videos and large pictures will be placed under a preset placeholder. Just click on the item to view it.
5. Feel free to bring anything to the floor, from cooking to travel. It doesn't have to be earthshattering, just whatever is on your mind.
6. If you would like to discuss a particular subject, but are too shy to bring it up, feel free to email me at bellalyra.1@gmail.com. I'll post the entry, and you will remain anonymous.
