Early Years: Wildling Woods Forest Learning
Our brand-new Wildling Woods forest learning area is perfect for early years groups, offering a safe, inspiring space for young children to explore, discover, and grow. Through outdoor play and nature-based activities, we help children build confidence, develop essential motor skills, and deepen their connection to the natural world — all while having fun in the fresh air.
A visit to Wildling Woods is about more than just exploring the outdoors. It’s about nurturing curiosity, building resilience, and laying the foundations for a lifelong love of nature. Children are encouraged to explore at their own pace, work together, and engage all their senses as they learn about the world around them.
What to Expect
Every visit is tailored to the needs and abilities of your group. Activities are designed to be hands-on and exploratory, helping children develop key early years skills such as:
- Building confidence and independence
- Strengthening fine and gross motor skills
- Problem-solving and decision-making
- Communication, teamwork, and social skills
- Curiosity and observation of the natural world
A session might include exploring seasonal changes in the woodland, creating natural art, building simple shelters, storytelling around the fire circle, or hunting for minibeasts beneath the leaves. We follow a child-led approach — encouraging exploration and discovery while gently introducing key concepts about nature, habitats, and the living world.
We offer a range of options for early years groups:
- One-off visits lasting 2 hours – Perfect for nurseries and early years settings looking for an exciting outdoor learning day.
- Regular weekly sessions – Bookable in blocks, these sessions allow children to build skills and confidence over time.
- Special seasonal events – During school holidays, we run themed forest school sessions focused on nature and the changing seasons.
