Background and Purpose: Second language (L2) learners have been observed making generation errors... more Background and Purpose: Second language (L2) learners have been observed making generation errors, i.e., derivational morphology, in the prospects of learning another language by translating it into their mother tongue. This research has studied these errors in L2 regarding derivational morphology. Methodology: This study was designed as descriptive research, using a quantitative approach to collect data. The respondents in this research are a total of 100 undergraduates who volunteered to take part, comprising 50 from the second semester, and 50 from the fourth semester who majored in French, and had been chosen using a purposive sampling method. The current study contained an expanded instrument that included each of the four sentences from each of the fourfold or more distractors, comprising 108 items. The affectability of learners to the use of these structures in an unfavourable syntactic situation was tested by crossing derivationally related suffixed shapes with their bases. Data obtained from the 108 item questionnaires was analysed inferentially using ANOVA and t-test. Findings: Results showed that learners were dissatisfied with the presence or absence of postfixes, implying that generation errors are a problem of performance rather than competence.

The study in this paper focused on the relations between life stressors (during translator pre-se... more The study in this paper focused on the relations between life stressors (during translator pre-service period, T1), the state of burnout (during the start of students’ first year as a translation apprentice/intern, T2), and career optimism (toward the end of that year, T3). The immediate impact of conventional or routine troubles on the participants’ confidence in translation as a career was not observed. However, an immediate negative impact was noted in the case of an absence of social help. Findings include those suggesting that both life stress indicators were concerning extreme emotional fatigue or weariness, which brought about diminishing positive thinking and attitudes to the profession of translation by the end of the first year. Participants of this study were students in the pre-service year in a translation education program at a university in Iran.

Purpose of the study: This paper embodies research on the introduction of machine translation (MT... more Purpose of the study: This paper embodies research on the introduction of machine translation (MT) into translation teaching and learning from the perspectives of learners and instructors/teachers. Four suppositions of employment of MT in translation classes are observed and examined here: MT as a weak (or peripheral) tool, MT as a useful (or essential) tool; MT as a professional treatment; and MT as a CATI tool. Methodology: The objective is achieved using an experimental-survey method with a theory of 'action about reasons' (technology acceptance model) adapted from Davis, Bagozzi, and Warshaw's (1989) work as its framework. The survey tool is done through a closed and open-ended questionnaire while the 'experiment' takes the form of MT introduction practice exercises in the classroom. One hundred Iranian undergraduate students from a translation course with MT in its syllabus and thirty translation instructors make up the population for this study. Main Findings: In general, students found MT to be useful for producing their translation and seemed, with good exposure through practice, encouraged to use it. The translation educators too saw its benefits but would only be persuaded seriously to utilize it in their translation classrooms when MT is found to produce a much higher quality of output. Otherwise, the disadvantages might outweigh the benefits and thus make the integration of MT into translation teaching not worthwhile. Applications of this study: Understanding reservations and motivations of translation students and translation instructors from their responses enable translation educators and programmers to redesign their teaching to lessen the challenges and at the same grow their confidence in handling MT and guide them towards efficient and effective use. Novelty/Originality of this study: To date, the testing of MT in teaching has been done in language education per se. In this study, MT is examined as a tool for better translation teaching, and not as a mode of translation as opposed to human translation. This lends originality to the study.

The study was conducted on 30 Iranian male translator educators who have been detached from translation practice for long chronological periods of time upon completion of their teacher training courses. They were chosen through purposive testing among 100 Iranian male translator educators from three areas in Iran namely Mashhad, Torbat-e-Heydarieh, and Tehran. Their age runs somewhere in the range of 25 and 35. The instrument included one translation errand. The assignment comprised 20 items out of common words and 20 items out of uncommon vocabularies that were assigned in a translation setting. Results demonstrated that the attrition rate gradually expanded as the chronology of not being attached to translation expanded. This means that as the translation practitioner becomes a trainer, with less practice translation attrition occurs. Additionally, it was discovered that the attrition rate in contextualized text is not as high as for common words in comparison to the uncommon words, also it applies to the decontextualized text. This study also indicates that uncommon words are more resistant to attrition than common words in translation settings.
