In particular, it shows a methodology to describe archaeological sites through 3D models integrated with databases. Models are implemented with BIM software. They are made queryable - through the connection with a Relational Database Management System - and sharable on the web. The case study, analyzed in collaboration with the SSBAR SITAR office, concerns an application on the Roman structures found in the Crypt of the Church of SS. Sergio e Bacco in Rome. The BIM application experimented shows how to use also in the archeological field semantic and parametric solid modeling integrated with 3D standardized and all-inclusive databases that are finally manageable in the public cloud.

The possibility of virtually visiting a place of historical and cultural interest is often the only way to have access to it. This can happen for various reasons: users' disabilities, temporary site closure, assets located in remote and inaccessible places, and assets destined to disappear over time. Fortunately, new Geomatics and Computer Science technologies allow the virtual reconstruction of entire archaeological and monumental sites with high levels of accuracy. Considering the technologies related to VR, online virtual fruition techniques were recently adopted, using the open source WebGL JavaScript libraries. These libraries allow users to virtually explore the virtual model employing web browsers without installing any client-side applications. The work presented adopts these technologies. It falls within the VASARI project, whose goal is to create a single digital platform for the enhancement, use, and management of the Italian artistic heritage. In particular, the described work concerns the survey, 3D reconstruction, and web visualization of the archaeological site of the Inquisition Prisons located within the monumental complex of Palazzo Chiaramonte in Palermo, known as the "Steri" and today the headquarters of the Rectorate of the University of Palermo. The adopted workflow and encountered issues during implementation will be described.

On the grounds of the critical analysis of those systems and the running of the related software, it was defined a possible model of cartographic structure, applied to a real case.

The taxon, native of Moluccas Island, North Vietnam and China, was first introduced into England and France in 1751 by a missionary who mistook it for a Japan varnish tree (Toxicodendron vernicifluum) (1).

But they not always have been properly used for this purpose. Only in recent years GIS have been getting better used for the planning, management and control of the territory. The application of GIS to the transport sector has become relevant both for management and decision-making in support of Public Administration (PA) and citizens. GIS are particularly useful for roads and routing graphs management capabilities as well as for searching the most suitable path. The results achieved in this research activity aimed to evaluate different road graphs, proprietary and free ones, in order to compare calculated distances and travel times.

With the rapid development of Internet and Web, Web Geographical Information System became an important aspect of GIS study. WebGIS software allow the most efficient and low-cost way in dissemination and sharing of geographic information for public and specific groups. WebGIS is an helpful instrument also for the sector of GPS surveying, where is necessary to publish information to plain the survey and to execute post survey operations. This work describes the development of an open source WebGIS application by which is possible downl...
Telephone and radio communications are based on the electromagnetic wave motion in the ether, tha... more Telephone and radio communications are based on the electromagnetic wave motion in the ether, that may cause electromagnetic pollution. Italian laws provide surveying on electromagnetic emissions, standing on the point of interest with certified instruments for six minutes. Measures carried out according to this procedure are so long and expensive that they can't consider the whole area interested by electromagnetic pollution; so it's useful to carry out a first cinematic screening, to identify areas to be investigated with a static survey. Owing to this consideration, the experimentation has been made as following: using a vehicle equipped with a GPS receiver and a multi band sonde for electric fields, continuous measurements of electromagnetic field can be carried out, combining them exactly with the route. It allow wide areas to be monitored in short times; subsequently data can be joined and processed with a GIS software, represented on a cartography, obtaining informati...

T... more The extension of accessibility of CH to disabled people is a current topic of great importance. Today, there exist a lot of ongoing projects aimed at the extension of accessibility using the most recent and low cost technologies to improve accessibility to CH. One of the technologies, today available that can help to improve accessibility to CH, is certainly rapid prototyping. The main goal of the research here illustrated is the application of rapid prototyping for the extension of accessibility of Cultural Heritage (CH) to blind and visually impaired people. This document reports an experiment that compared the effectiveness of different 3D models for the introduction of blind and visually impaired people to the tactile use of models of monuments. In addition, this study focuses on defining standards and guidelines regarding features of 3D models, e.g. print resolution, in order to obtain greater legibility of models at different scales by the blind or visually impaired people. This paper shows a part of a wider Interreg EU research project, named I-ACCESS, aimed to study accessibility problems and solutions for CH. The experiments conducted with the sample of disabled people, allowed to obtain results on the most suitable printing parameters to be used.

Il volume presenta in particolare il complesso dei contributi al progetto Otremed da parte del partenariato tra Regione Universit\ue0 di Palermo e CNR.OTREMED (Tool for the territorial strategy of the MED space) project aims at developing methodological tools at regional level to enhance the decision making process in terms of territorial competitiveness and planning. Financed by the MED program for two years, this project joins together 13 partners, almost all of them being regional authorities: Region of Murcia (project leader), Generalitat Valenciana, Scientific Research Centre of the Slovenian academy of sciences and arts, Region Emilia Romagna, Region Sicily, Piedmont Region, MMLAB 0 Laboratory for Graphics, Multimedia & GIS 0 University of Patras; Agenzia regionale per lo sviluppo in agricoltura, LAORE Sardegna, Mediterranean Institute. The Otremed partnership is based on a network of regions and institutions that have already worked and collaborated together for several years. Past territorial cooperation projects in the Mediterranean, and more precisely the PIC-RM project, gave birth to several new projects. Otremed is one of them and demonstrates the ability to capitalize on a project results and the continuity of cooperation relationships in the Med space
