_1:43 pm_[katishna] | mom's groups Thanks to the suggestion from moominmama who got me in touch with the Sprout Soup person. Fabulous! Now i"m looking to either join or start a mom's group here in NE columbus. Preferably one where people aren't super-granola (nothing against granola, i just don't fit in with them). I'd like to have people to hang out with who think more like me - whatever works works. Any suggestions? (9 Comments |Comment on this) |

_3:10 am_[munchkin1616] | IMPORTANT! ***Please Please Please repost this!!!***Hi All!As many of you know, I've been working for over 2 yrs with the National Sleep Foundation to create a program for Drowsy Driving Awareness. Well it's finally come to fruition and the first annual NATIONAL DROWSY DRIVING AWARENESS WEEK is happening NOV 5-11Now we need your help...1. Educate yourself and make a rule to never drive tired and to never let those around you get behind the wheel this way.http://www.sleepfoundation.org/site/c.huIXKjM0IxF/b.2418861/k.B1A8/Tools_and_Quizzes.htm2. Help us convince Congress to advocate with us:http://www.sleepfoundation.org/site/c.huIXKjM0IxF/b.2609573/k.A0A0/Sleep_Advocacy_Action_Alert.htm3. Print and post one (or more!) flyers around your classrooms, your work, your school, your gym, and anywhere else you go. Any sign could save someone's life. (Ohio State Students: Remember, OSU gives students 50 free prints at any computer lab with their BuckID... use them!)http://www.drowsydriving.org/atf/cf/%7B120BADF0-669E-46D0-B46B-768D410B040E%7D/ddpw_flyer.pdf4. Forward this to anyone and everyone! Remind them that you want them driving safely! Thanks so much,~munchkin1616 (Comment on this) |

_3:15 pm_[katishna] | Pump It Up? I'm thinking of taking my 3 year old son to Pump It Up, but alas I know *nothing* about it other than it seems to be this mythical place no one ever goes but everyone has heard of. Have you been there? What can you tell me about it? How much is it to get in? Would a 3 year old be ok there? (1 Comment |Comment on this) |

_9:20 pm_[moominmama] | x-posted: This makes me wish I ate pork So that I could boycott it. This reads like a joke:I received a letter this morning from Jennifer Daniel Collins, an attorney at Faegre & Benson that represents The National Pork Board. It stated, for the most part, that my use of the phrase "the other white milk" violates their trademark on the phrase "the other white meat." As such, they've demanded that I remove the shirt, demanded that the image of the shirt be removed from any site I know of, demanded that I destroy any shirts that exist with the logo and demand that I not at any point in the future use the phrase in a commercially profitable way.from The LactivistYou've got to read the whole thing to really get a feel for the complete idiocy of this threatened lawsuit. Un-freakin'-believable.Any Columbus area noise happening about this (The Lactivist is written by a central Ohio mama) (Comment on this) |

_1:07 am_[koralleen] | Moving to Columbus or thereabouts I am moving next week from the DC area to a short-term rental in Worthington. I've never been to Columbus before but I've been lurking on a couple of communities and googling furiously; I haven't found enough online clues to figure out where the best place to buy will be. Looking will be fun, though!Name: KoralleenMarried/partnered?: Married# of kids, kids names and ages: three kids - Christopher and Jennifer (19 and 21) are in school and will stay in Maryland while 5yo Victoria gets to come with usWhat part of Columbus do you live in?: good questionWhat is your/your spouse's occupation?: I retired (!) to homeschool my youngest but up until last week I was a systems analyst. My spouse is a wandering banker. What are your hobbies?: Anything related to books, biking, travelingWhat's your favorite thing to do with your kid(s) in Columbus?: I will get back to you on that.Do you have any pictures?: ( I do.Collapse )Anything else you want to add?: I have really enjoyed living in Takoma Park, MD. We can easily walk to playgrounds, libraries, a post office, a grocery store, and a subway station. Although the hippies and artists who made the town what it is today now all have law degrees and nannies it is still a lot of fun with festivals, music and art events, and a welcoming attitude that encourages diversity. You can be pretty weird here and it's ok. I am looking forward to checking out Columbus and environs, but if anyone has any tips for finding a neighborhood similar to the one I'm leaving feel free to share them. Please! _11:55 am_[nekosensei] | Poll on First Language Acquisition I'm working on a project for my linguistics class, and I'm wondering if anybody out there would be willing to help me out. If you have children that have already learned how to talk, can you follow the links over to my journal to take a poll? The first poll is for parents who have taught their children spoken English only. The second poll is for parents who have taught their children spoken English and baby sign language[At this point, I am looking for more people who have taught their children spoken English only; however, if you have experience teaching your child baby sign language, then feel free to fill out the second one. Thanks!]I sincerely appreciate your help with this. Crossposted. Current Mood: hopeful (Comment on this) |

_5:27 am_[munchkin1616] | Experienced Housekeeper and Cook/Baker will Clean your Place and Help! College graduate with a teaching certificate, a degree in Human Development and Families, I paid my way through school by doing private tutoring and housekeeping. I am a certified cooking teacher (FCS Ed), as well as one who has cooked for over 12,000 total people between the past 11 Thanksgivings (due to a soup kitchen that I run). In other words, I can be your new best friend!Whether you need someone weekly, monthly, or just before gatherings in your home, I am available!Cleaning: You provide the cleaning materials, I'll provide the hard labor you'd love to avoid! I can come in and work while you relax or work in another room and I give discounts for multiple appointment bookings (either with you and/or with you and friends).Cooking/Baking: I can either make the food and bring it to you completed (you pay materials and labor), I can come to your home to prepare the food for you, and/or I can help you to prepare (the night before parties, etc.). Heck, if you love the cooking but hate the grocery shopping, I can hit the stores with your recipes and bring the groceries home! I can handle fruit trays to triple layer cakes, from homemade mashed potatoes to casseroles, from veggie trays and munchie foods for parties to sit-down meals. The holidays are fast approaching, allow yourself a low-stress, high-fun season by letting someone else do all the work! _5:38 am_[munchkin1616] | Gift Ideas? Thought someone out there might have a relative of a similar age and have some insight...I have a brother who turns 13 in January that I haven't been able to see in about 7 yrs due to family issues I have no control over.Every year, I send him Hanukkah and a birthday gift and every year, I choose something either based on sports (which he liked as a kid and since I attend a huge sports school) or from some suggestion on a website based on his age/gender. While I was okay with this when he was younger and probably happy with "stuff," he's too old for that now and getting him the wrong gifts would make it even more painfully clear that I know absolutely nothing about him.Any suggestions? Is there such thing as a universal gift at this age? His parents are super conservative, so video games, movies, or music might be risky since I don't know what he likes or what he'd be allowed to use, and of course, ideas have to be affordable since there'll be two being purchased and shipped at once time!THANK YOU TONS!!!
