9:31 pm Well, it's been seven years since I was last on LJ.Seems that all of my emails for the other accounts are no longer functioning. So bye bye to those. This one they allowed me to reset my password for, as the last one was so old it wasn't useful. Meh. Current Mood: aggravated (Comment on this)

10:46 am The Fabulous Beige House Well, I guess it's been a while since I updated.1. the spouse and I have sold the Fabulous Beige House. If all goes well, then on September 30th he and I will be handing the keys over to a family who have promised to treat it well.2. We will then be moving to a house a mile north of here that is a bit smaller, and will be entirely our own with no mortgage. With my being part time, this makes a lot more sense. We are uncertain as to how the kittens will manage being entirely indoor cats from then on, but we'll see.3. Also, I started on June 25th as the Emmaus Public Library's Youth Services librarian. It is work that I love, although fitting in is always nerve wracking in the beginning. As the man said while falling off of the twenty story building, "so far, so good!" (1 Comment |Comment on this)

It was written by Azriona, posted on Archive of Our Own, and can be found here: http://archiveofourown.org/works/1097375I printed it out, cut the pieces, folded and taped, and made it into a cube. Very Escher! It is sitting on our Christmas tree.Azriona story cube 2Azriona story cube (1 Comment |Comment on this)

8:27 am FanFiction Well, it's been an interesting six months. Two friends in particular have gotten me involved in reading Sherlock (the BBC version) fanfiction, and it's been a wonderful world to get caught up in. Yes, I've read some bad ones. Poorly written, and sloppy. I've read stories that have enraged me for the absolute sadism of the authors. And I've read stories that were written by obviously very young people, new and extremely shy authors, and by people who are new to writing in the English language. Actually, none of those three make me angry at all. I enjoy looking at their ideas and thinking about how they will improve the more they write. They have ideas and love for the subject. Even more important (to me) they have an idea of the characters that appeals to me.I've read a good deal of humor, stories that might not fit canon, nor be in the appropriate style, but they just work. It does indeed take all types. And it's nice because being on Archive of Our Own, I get to post some of the stories that have been teeming through my brain all my life. I'm much slower in writing them down than I am in coming up with ideas and scenarios and conversations in my head. I've been doing that for as long as I can remember. It doesn't work out so well in real life when you've run all the permutations for the difficult conversation you will have with your spouse or your boss. Works much better in stories. Waking up with the perfect next step in your head. Of course it's frustrating when you forget it all on your way to the shower. Sometimes that is what is more difficult than putting the words on the paper, or electronic screen. That you had the PERFECT way to resolve the issue and it's gone, quite gone, with only the faint impression of what was meant to be.Ah. Well. That all being said, it's Wednesday, and time for Mise en Place to update, as well as a bunch of other things I've subscribed to on Archive of Our Own. Best get reading! 7:53 am Close of Senior Year Well, the Younger Spawn graduates in two weeks.Seems odd, as she just had her birthday and I was forcibly reminded of the day she was born. A good day. Not that long ago.Last night was the Freddies. Think The Tony Awards, but for High School musicals. Freddy is the ghost at the State Theater, though I understand he did not make an appearance last night. One of the kids who has been coming to the house for three years (Eldar Spawn's group, now YS), was up for an award. The way the Freddies work is that EVERY school that participates gets one nomination (pity some call it) each year. This year we got two. Last time that happened was for The Pajama Game when we got two for what was truly a bit of magic on stage, a dance between two minor characters who had amazing chemistry together. Two kids that I'd known for years, who were incredible friends (and nothing more).Looking at YS and her friends I will say that the Value of Friendship is an enormous asset. These are creative and funny kids. I will miss them when they all go off to college. (Comment on this)

5:54 pm Dave Brubeck, R.I.P. My sympathies go out to Dave Brubeck's family. He was a great pianist, and a good man who brought joy to the world. I am listening to his Christmas album now and his interpretations of the carols are incredible. (Comment on this)

12:44 pm Blogging elsewhere.... I have been tasked with blogging for work. I am finding it a little bit odd, as it is not like LJ at all. Here is the link: http://bethlehemth1.blogspot.com/Feel free to check it out and give me feedback. This month's post (yes, I plan on updating weekly, but so far it's been monthly) was on Holiday Food safety, and contains some links to the CDC and USDA that are actually really neat! 11:13 am Wait, what? It's FALL? Our sweet gum in the back yard turned a gorgeous shade of red this year. It's getting tall, next year it should reach higher than the house. We still have green tomatoes in the garden - I do not think those will survive to turn red, and I can not get my family to eat them fried and green. For that matter, I don't much care for them that way either. Peppers - those I have pureed and frozen for use in the winter.Good sleeping weather too. I like the cold for sleeping with the quilt that was a wedding present from the spouse's parents. This time of year the cats are cozier as well, snuggling at times.Three large pumpkins decorate our front stoop, and those should be carved this week. (1 Comment |Comment on this)

10:32 pm Evening ... and the cats are sleeping on the carpet, knowing that their mistresses are once again not going to be home to sleep with them. Which is nice, as then they sleep with me. (Comment on this)

3:14 pm Speed Racer has died. I am in tears today over a man that I only got to meet once, and another whom I never got to meet (in spite of recommending him as a guest for Otakon forever), but who were very important to me when I was a child.Peter Fernandez, the voice of Speed Racer, has passed away.William Weber, Wee Willie Weber, who hosted the show that introduced many of us in Pennsylvania to Japanese animation, also passed away this week. When I was in elementary school I used to run home to turn on the TV and using the UHF dial do my best to tune in the Philadelphia station to watch Speed Racer, Kimba the White Lion, Astro Boy, Marine Boy, and Ultra Man. My mom did not approve of these, so it was just as well that she wasn't home yet when they came on. Unknown to me at that time, my future spouse was watching the same things on his set 80 miles away.My spouse and I purchased our first car together, a White Ford Probe with MACHFIV as the license plate. I mentioned Speed Racer in my speech at the opening ceremony for Otakon 2002, when I was Con Chair, saying that when I was little I had planned on marrying Speed Racing when I grew up, and got a cheer.I did get to meet Mr. Fernandez when he was a guest at Otakon. For me this was The Guest to End All Guests, more important than any other guest we have ever had. And my spouse knew this when he introduced us. I told Mr. Fernandez how pleased I was to meet him. In the course of our conversation he mentioned that Speed Racer was "just a cartoon", and I told him strongly that it was Never Just A Cartoon, that Speed Racer was a hero to us growing up, that we had all wanted to BE Speed Racer. He got a big smile on his face.At the end of the con he told the staff that he had never felt so welcome, and that he would love to come back. 8:34 pm hmmm. 1. Power steering went out while we were driving the Eldar Spawn to her boyfriend's. Luckily I learned to drive on a car with no power steering. Yeah, that long ago.2. Tom Cat puts his paw on my leg and says, "Let me out, pleeease?" A day later I have poison ivy there.3. Trained for the census. It was fun! now for the real fun to start after I get observed on my first Visit.Life is immensely busy, and up and down and every which way. Trying to just enjoy the moments, of course.I wish you all a Splendid Spring! (1 Comment |Comment on this)
