attack of the cranky distro owners

this community is basically a support group for current, new, and former distro owners. here, distro owners can discuss everything from how to store merchandise and postage rates to dilemmas and annoyances to zine recommendations to happyhappy things.

the guidelines for this community are as follows:

1. (updated 08/19/05) this is a community for distro owners to discuss distro-oriented things, and to ask questions and support each other, this is not a announcement community for promoting new zines, looking for zines and items to distribute, promoting your distro's sale or new catalog items. announcing reopenings is acceptable if your distro has had an especially long hiatus. introducing yourself and your distro and linking your distro when you are new to the community is fine. announcing events relevant to zines is great. posting for link and flier exchanges is also acceptable. a community full of distro owners does not equal gold mine. not posting in this community isn't going to hurt you, considering most members are also apart of at least 1 zine or d.i.y.-oriented community on livejournal. so if you're looking to promote your zine or distro somewhere, check out stolensharpie, zine_scene, zinesters, diyculture, zinescene and the many other communities on livejournal devoted to zines and other diy interests. if your post is deemed unacceptable by a moderator, you have the opportunity to delete the post yourself. if your post is not deleted in 1-2 days, a moderator will delete it for you.

2. being cranky, blunt, or grumpy is fine. being outright mean is not.

3. since some of us that post in this community deal with mental health issues, respect that everyone has their boundaries, no matter if they deal with mental health issues or not. if someone says that they're going to take a break from their distro or from one aspect of their distro such as not putting out a print catalog, or not taking unsolicited zines in for consideration, or taking a break from reading for awhile, respect that and don't press for a bigger explanation or take it personally.

4. only members can post comments to this livejournal. if you are a distro owner, and you do not have a livejournal, it is easier to sign up now because livejournal no longer requires codes. feel free to contact one of the community moderators if you need help with this.

5. abuse of members and this community will not be tolerated.

6. questions about starting new distros are welcome, but please take the time to read the archives of this community and work out whether your question has already been answered.

7. for directions on how to delete or edit your posts to the community, or making friends-only entries to the community, go here.
