| Abstract: To ensure the stable year-round production market supply of spinach in Japan, some combination plan of covering materials for the winter season were investigated. Concerning outer films of plastic house, near-ultraviolet eliminating films (PVC-UV, PO-UV) promoted the plant growth compared to near-ultraviolet transmittance films (PVC), which may be due to the modified light exposure (lack of shorter wavelength) because the temperature inside were almost same. Concerning the use of row covers, temperatures around the plants were kept moderately under the floating covering compared to direct covering. This results indicated that these covering materials would be successfully introduced for Japan’s winter spinach production. |
