Buquorsa

語源

Uncertain. Typologically, the linguist David Stifter compares the term to Latin Aequorna. According to Prósper, the term probably derives from Venetic. More specifically, the name may represent a compound *fugworsso-, itself a compound of *ewg- (“to enjoy”) (whence Latin fungor (“to perform”)) and *worssos, the perfect past participle of *wertō (“to turn”). Alternatively, Prósper suggests that the second component may have been *wort-i-o-, in which case the term would be comparable with divortium and Venetic e[-]vortei. However, Prósper finds this second possibility less likely. Nevertheless, Prósper suggests that Veneitc *fugo- was perceived by Celtic scribes in Emona as ug̊wo-, and thus orthographically rendered as Buq-. On the basis of the proposed Indo-European roots, Prósper suggests that the etymologically means something akin to "turned towards joy."
