Conversation and Celebration of Same-Sex Marriage

Discussions of same-sex marriage, philosophy and politics

This is a place to talk about same-sex marriage! Whether you want to think closely about different aspects of the issues, celebrate victories, mourn defeats, post news updates, link to good essays or videos, or just meet other people who care about marriage equality, this is the place to be!

This will be a relatively lightly moderated community-- I want to encourage free expression of lots of ideas. All members can post entries, and membership is open to everyone. At the same time, I'll step in as much as I need to to keep things civil. Some guidelines:

*no ad hominem attacks on anybody present. (Ad hominem attacks on, say, Rick Santorum are reasonable at this point-- he's been building a campaign on making ad hominem attacks against us.)

*no Christian-bashing, or bashing on religions/religious people in general. Specific groups or individuals who are using their religion against LGBTQ people are fair game, but there's no need to expect the many religious queer people and allies to choose between faith and political principles, or to blame them for the actions of other people of faith.

*no racism. Seriously. There was a lot of really ugly divisiveness after Prop 8 passed in California, and as a bunch of different oppressed groups, the last thing we need to be doing is fighting each other while the kyriarchy sits back and laughs.

*People who are trans, genderqueer, asexual, polyamorous, bisexual, or whatever other kind of sexual minority are explicitly welcome here! No bashing of anyone for their orientation, gender identity, gender, or anything related, ever.

*People opposed to same-sex marriage are entirely welcome to join, post and comment-- I'd love to have some civil, thoughtful debate! Be aware, though, that "tolerance" is not the same as "never criticizing."

So, that's it. Welcome! And feel free to PM me if you have any specific questions!
