The main objective of the study is to determine how COVID-19 measures have changed the HKIS agglomeration in three major metropolitan cities of Türkiye—Ankara, Istanbul, and Izmir. Data from 2019 were used as the pre-COVID-19 period, from 2020 as the COVID-19 period, and from 2021 as the post-COVID-19 period, and the agglomeration was calculated using the location quotient. Of the number of HKIS employees in Türkiye, 71.65% worked in Ankara, Istanbul, and Izmir in 2019, but during the COVID-19 period (2020) when the pandemic measures were implemented, the proportion increased to 79%. During the post-COVID-19 period (2021), the percentage of HKIS workers in Türkiye was 78.68%. The observations suggest that the agglomeration of HKIS activities in these three cities continued to increase after the COVID-19 pandemic measures were implemented and removed.

Setting and infrastructure, energy and climate change, waste, water, transportation, and education are major elements of a green campus. This study focuses on water consumption and savings, which generally involves a rainwater harvesting system. Erciyes University became the third environmentally sensitive university in Turkey according to the UI GreenMetric 2020–2021 ranking. While Erciyes University was ranked 142nd in the world in 2020, with a total score of 7175, it rose to 99th place in 2021, with 7775 points. According to UI GreenMetric Erciyes University was ranked 85nd in the world in 2023. This paper investigates and describes a rainwater harvesting method for Erciyes University. The total harvestable water was calculated as the roof surface area × the average annual rainfall × the loss coefficient. The loss coefficient was set as 0.75 considering the differences in roof forms. The rainwater harvesting
calculations were computed based on the building floor areas because of the differences in roof forms. The total harvestable water was calculated to be 64,635.432 m³ from the roofs (floor area) in the campus area of Erciyes University. Accordingly, it is possible to save approximately 7.55% of the annual water consumption, saving 1,066,477 TL and supplying
water to 7,181 people per year by harvesting rainwater from the roofs at Erciyes University. It is concluded that the proposed rainwater harvesting method help Erciyes University rank higher in the UI GreenMetric ranking, contribute to the eco-city approach, and enhance campus sustainability.

This method is a readily accessible means of performing a spatial evaluation of statistical data. This research investigated which cities in Yozgat have manufacturing industry clusters, which cities' manufacturing industries merit further investment, compatibility with 2013 regional planning proposals, and tendencies in manufacturing industry clustering over the years. According to the number of employees in Yozgat in 2006, there were only manufacturing industry clusters in the districts of Yerköy and Sorgun. There were manufacturing industry clusters in 6 more regions in 2011. By 2016, the districts of Yerköy, Sorgun, Boğazlıyan, and Çayıralan had manufacturing industry clusters. Another important result is that the proximity of Boğazlıyan and Çayıralan to the city of Kayseri provides them with widespread trickle-down effects. This research was performed using the fourth level of the equivalent to the subregions of nomenclature of units for territorial statistics (NUTS-4), and is one of the first such studies of Yozgat.

Furthermore, these protected natural areas are also important because they are habitats for living beings. The integration of a city with the natural environment will support social and economic development and improve the ecological structure for sustainable urban development. In this regard, greenways and ecological networks are habitats of living beings. Greenways also limit urban development. In this study, greenways were created for Malta by using Euclidean distance mapping (EDM) so that sites in Malta would be protected from urban development. The protected natural areas of Malta were integrated with cities by the EDM method. EDM is an application of a geographic information system (GIS) and was used to restrict urban development with natural areas. In this study, an ecological network was established with the EDM met...

There are many emigrants from Yozgat. The elderly population here is increasing, and although the agricultural potential is strong, it is not used effectively. The method used in this study includes a combination of two approaches. The first approach includes the critical factors of rural development: physical systems, social systems, creative systems, local systems and economic systems. The second approach includes the accelerators of rural population, in addition to the opportunities and limiters. The most important problem related to the analysis of rural development is the selection of a perspective on the province in question. This study will guide future studies of provinces and regions. The study concluded that Yozgat’s social life should be as lively and strong as its agricultural production and animal husbandry potential. Moreover, Yozgat has important ecotourism destinations, and this potent...

Th... more This study examines the short-term effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on unemployment in Turkey. The data used in this study are from monthly insured bulletins of the Social Security Institution (SSI) of Turkey. The number of active insured employees in NUTS-3 regions of Turkey was analyzed in three periods: (1) in December 2019, when the first official case of COVID-19 was announced in the world, (2) in March 2020, when the first official case of COVID-19 was reported in Turkey, and (3) at the end of May 2020, when the normalization period was declared in Turkey. Both increases and decreases in employment in these three periods were examined in percentage. This study finds that employment increased by 9.024 from December 2019 to March 2020. However, the number of active insured employees decreased by 657,417 from March to May 2020 due to the pandemic measures implemented after the first case of COVID-19 was detected in Turkey. After the normalization period was declared in May 2020, the number of active insured employees increased by 529,249 within one month. This illustrates the negative effects of the COVID-19 measures on employment. Metropolitan cities are more affected by the COVID-19 pandemic due to their different sectorial structures, their significant economic relations with other cities and the world, and the more stringent COVID-19 measures in these cities than other provinces by covering weekends, which led to higher unemployment in metropolitan cities. Another important result of this study is that the COVID-19 measures had negative effects on employment in urban economies, and if these short-term effects continue in the long term, the negative effects will be greater in urban economies. Therefore, this study concludes that urban economies cannot sustain these COVID-19 measures any longer.

In this research, the Location Quotient (LQ) method was used to provide statistical knowledge on geographical location and clustering. The employment structure is examined under three categories: 1) number of employees contributing to rural production using traditional methods; 2) number of employees in vegetable and animal production, and logging and fishing; and 3) number of employees in the food industry. Of these three areas of interest, the LQ method could not be applied to the first one because of the lack of entrepreneurship and capital accumulation. It was concluded that Sorgun, Çandır and Akdağmadeni were the NUTS-4 regions that contributed to rural production. Clustering was detected in Çayıralan, Aydıncık, Kadışehri and Akdağmadeni NUTS-4 regions that contributed to business activity in vegetable and animal production, and logging and fishing.
