Previous Entry Flag Next EntryGuys, I know this isn't the most active community, but it is NOT an advertisement community. Please do not advertise events, protests, petitions, etc here. Really, stop it. Just to remind everyone, this is a forum for the discussion and recommendation of books, articles, news stories, etc, about gender, gay rights, women's rights, the feminist movement... anything along those lines. As such... anyone read any good books lately? I'm going back a bit and reading Simone DeBeauvoir's The Second Sex -- I read parts of it when I was a high school freshman, but it was a bit much for me at the time. Hopefully I'll get more out of it this time around!

I haven't been reading much that focuses on gender stuff... but I just finished Solo: On Her Own Adventure by Susan Fox Rogers. It is a sort of a classic now, but I'd never read it and all the short memoirs of women traveling, hiking, flying, hunting, etc., on their own was very inspirational for me. None of memoirs ever cross gender lines, but they definitely sit right at the edge (or beyond) what is commonly thought of as okay for women to do by themselves.
