Feminist and Gender Theory Reading List

"Great minds discuss ideas. Average minds discuss events. Small minds discuss people." -- Elanor Roosevelt

Once upon a time, four rabidly intellectual, painfully curious, wonderfully unapologetic feminists got together and thought, "Wouldn't it be great if we made as comprehensive a reading list as possible of books relating to gender theroy, feminism, transgender issues, gay rights, queer history and all those other things we hold near and dear?" Then, one of them got bored enough at work to try to make it happen.

The point of this community is to discuss both the books and other written material, as well as general themes, relating to the topics listed above. If you think it fits, throw it in. If you really, in your heart of hearts, don't think it belongs here but still want to tell the world what a great book you just read, well, that's what your personal journal's for.

If you would like to post an article or a snippet from another source, please follow two rules:
1- LJ cut! Please, for the sake of our friends pages.
2- Please post at least the name of the author and the book somewhere so that interested parties can track down and read more of your source. The whole reading thing is, after all, one of the ultimate goals of the community.

It is the moderator's sincerest hope that we can all play nice and avoid any big, nasty flame wars. We're all grown ups, as is evidenced by the fact that we're all reading books with really big words in the titles. Please don't make Ms. Moderator get ban-happy. No trolling, no low-blows, no personal attacks or demands for sensitive information. If you have any questions, problems with the community, strange desire to send me cash gifts or other legitimate reason for contacting the moderator, you may do so at fairywench@gmail.com. Please put the name of the community somewhere in the title of the email.
