Nominal derivatives from these roots often mean "house, hut" and "roof". We adduce evidence from non-IE languages in which words with these meanings are etymologically related and, having established this systemic pattern of etymological correspondences, we propose new etymologies of six words from different IE languages: ORuss. kuca "house" and Gr. kome "hair" from "covering" (PIE *kem(H)-), Gr. krypto "hide" and Lat. creper "obscure" from "to cover" (PIE *krep-), PSI. *gazb, *guzb "buttock" from "that which is hidden" (PIE *gewg-), and OIr. forad "mound, residence, brow" from "a cover" (PIE *(H)wer-).

These are actually Armenian translations of his works originally written in Greek. The number of writers from the seventh century is more abundant, e.g. the bishop-historian Sebeos, the poet Dawtak Kertoł (the author of the first secular poem in Armenian, "The Elegy on the Death of the Great Prince Jevansher"), and the polymath Anania Shirakatsi (Anania Širakac c i), the author of the first geographical treatise in Classical Armenian (Ašxarhac c oyc c). There are no original manuscripts from the earliest period of the Armenian language. The most ancient manuscript, the Moscow Gospel, was copied in 887, and many works written originally in the fifth century were subsequently interpolated and substantially changed by recopying. There are some early inscriptions from the 5th century, and the earliest ones seem to be the inscriptions from Nazareth, from the first half of the 5th century (see below). 5 An early inscription from Musrara (near Jerusalem) from the 6 th century runs as follows: Vasn yišataki ew p c rkut c ean amenayn Hayoc c z-oroc c z-anuans Tēr gitē "For the memory and salvation of all Armenians whose names the Lord knows". There are also a few old inscriptions from Armenia proper, e.g. from the church of Tekor.

Research paper thumbnail of Aspect and Aktionsart in Slavic, inflexion and derivation in RRG

Slavic languages are characterized by systematic pairings of verbs showing aspectual oppositions.... more Slavic languages are characterized by systematic pairings of verbs showing aspectual oppositions. Usually the perfective verbs are derived from imperfectives by prefixation, but the other processes, such as the derivation of secondary imperfectives and perfectives by suffixation, also exist. In this paper, it is argued that Slavic aspect needs to be represented chiefly in terms of derivation, as the system of lexical rules relating logical structures of verbs that form aspectual pairs, although it also shows some features usually associated with inflection (as a grammatical category expressed by nuclear operators in the operator projection).
