_7:15 am_[folkmew] | Calling all parents: "net nanny" suggestions? Any parents out there use some sort of "net nanny" software?I tried "glubble" for firefox but really didn't like it. It won't let you put your own (or your child's I should say) favorites on his "homepage". Bah!I'm not big on censorship, but I would like to have something that let's me see what my 6 and 8 year olds want to look at on the net. It would be nice to be able to let them choose to play neopets in the morning on sleep-in days and not worry about them somehow straying to some weird site on squicking or something. You know?? Suggestions??? (Comment on this) |

_6:57 pm_[kinder1of5] | Mäxchen does not want to go to bed Help! Our youngest one does not want to go to bed in the evening for the last three or four days. Before this he loved to go to bed, asking for his bottle by himself and running into his bed. Okay, I know it has been Christmas and this is a lot of excitement for such a little one. But it's really hard to try to get him asleep when he doesn't cooperate at all. I don't know this kind of fight from my big ones - Sebastian normally liked to sleep when it was time to go to bed and if it was a day he didn't like to go to bed you could calm him - and Christopher too - by singing some songs and petting them into sleep. This doesn't work with Mäxchen at all. Oh, he likes me singing and petting him, but he doesn't fall asleep while I'm doing so. Does anybody of you have any ideas what to to? _8:26 am_[runnerwolf] | That time again... It's that time again...Where I go trolling for programming ideas for Norwescon. I told the guy I would try to get him the panel ideas as well as a list of people that I want to make sure get invites as pros this year by Thursday. So if you have any good ideas (or a panel at a gencon you went to went really well). Let me know (with a brief description) and I'll pass them along.(x-posted filk, filkhaven, filkbabies, filknews, runnerwolf, and the Emerald Forrest Filk Society mailing list) (Comment on this) |

_8:49 am_[tigerbright] | dealing with eczema on self, with baby? Hi all.My dishydratory (sp?) eczema on my hands, which I've had since puberty, has resurged with a vengeance, probably because of all the handwashing I've been doing. Basically, when my hands get very dry, or are wet without having proper oils on them for too long, I get a nasty rash. I can try keepig my hands covered in moisturizing lotion before that, but after the rash has come up, the only hope *I know of* is cortisone cream. (I'd try breast milk if I'd ever had any. *sigh*)So my question is two-fold: 1) does anyone know how dangerous it is for Joshua if I handle him while I have the cortisone on my hands?2) does anyone know of a good rash treatment that is safer? Many thanks! _11:30 am_[tigerbright] | quick question - reflux Joshua's been spitting up a *lot* since Wednesday... I've had to keep a bib on him all the time. I figured it was some sort of adjustment he was going through, especially as we visited teddywolf's parents for Yom Kippur and they bought a different formula than we usually use, but today seems particularly bad, as I can smell the stomach acid in the spitup, and he clearly felt it burn, too.Should I call the pediatrician, or will they just say "let's wait and see"? The spitup is like water with little curds in, not like vomit. The baby's sleeping peacefully right now.Could this be a reaction to the two-month vaccinations he received on Wednesday? _1:41 pm_[stevieannie] | Sharing [Crossposted to my personal journal and friends-locked there]OK, this is a "Requesting Advice" post.Childminder had a dentist's appointment today, so instead of changing the complete day of childminding, I said I'd have both girls and work whilst I had them. Liesl then took over when she came back, giving me a good crack at the afternoon of work. Seeing how Tim is in a Pit Orchestra all this week, I'll be on my own every evening, so experience tells me I'll end up working then anyway...My question is this: How do you deal with the question of sharing? When Jared was a tiddler, I used to come down pretty heavily on the side of the Other Child (whoever that might be at the time), because that's pretty much what I *think* my parents did with me (Mum, if I'm wrong, I'd love your opinion!). I think it qualifies as "being nice to guests".With Ellie at home with me most of the time, it isn't an issue that has come up much, but with the recent onset of 2ness, it's starting to rear it's ugly head. It is particularly noticeable when Ellie plays with our next-door neighbour, Evie. Now, she *loves* Evie, and Evie loves her. They cuddle, skip together and hold hands for no apparent reason. Evie is a year older, so I *assume* that she's a bit more canny. It was open warfare today! Ellie was pulling at Evie's clothing to try and get her away from the toy in question, every toy was only wanted when the other person had possession of it, and at one noteable moment, Ellie scratched Evie (not on purpose, it was a combination of all-in-wrestling and clothes pulling with a rough fingernail).I ended up taking Ellie upstairs and putting her in her cot to calm down as she was just *awful*! Now this is a child who apologises to cats for walking too quickly for them to keep up (Thoo walks to heel!) and to adults for not holding hands. I don't get where this Jekyll and Hyde thing is coming from and I don't want to handle it in the wrong way.How do you teach them to share? I seem to remember I just dealt with it on a case by case basis with Jared, and eventually he got it. I just wonder if there is a better way of dealing with it than taking the questionable toy away (which doesn't work too well, as every toy is questionable when another child has it).Opinions sought! _8:15 am_[tigerbright] | weird pregnancy question As most of you know, I'm in that full-term waiting stage (38 weeks today).I just got woken up by acid POURING out of my esophagus and *into my nose*. This wasn't anything like my normal heartburn. I suspect this is the reason I woke up choking and unable to breathe at 11:30PM and 5:30AM, too... I thought it might be that I had too many pillows under my head (sleeping on my side), so I went back down to one.Is this worth calling the midwife-on-call at the Cambridge Birth Center now, or should I just be careful and make sure to tell my usual midwife when I see her tomorrow at 9AM? I have lots of Tums, and enough pillows to sleep reclining if I have to.Thanks! Current Mood: worried (3 Comments |Comment on this) |

_11:30 pm_[spiritdance] | 23 weeks Had an ultrasound today - the last one scheduled, unless something unusual comes up.DS is definitely a boy on this scan, and not afraid to show it :-)He's sitting with his head up and to my right, folded in a "pike position" so his feet are up in front of his face, which made getting pictures a bit of fun. And, in addition, pretty much every time the sonographer got near his head, he'd put his hands up in front of his face. And spent a bit of time playing with his umbilical cord, as well. This scan took a bit longer than the earlier ones, as this is the one to make sure everything is developing as it should (spine, brain, heart, kidneys) - and everything is fine.Current estimated weight is a bit over 900 grams (for the US folks who don't want to do the math, that comes out to about 1 lb 12 oz, or so). I didn't write the exact numbers down, so they didn't stick in my head. The other number that did stick was the current estimated due date as calculated by the current measurements - seems he's a bit ahead of the pack so far, as today's US, if it was setting the date for us, would put us expecting around October 23 (my current anticipated due date is November 5, and that will not change at this point - it was pointed out that the later scans are not as accurate for estimating due dates as the earlier scans).I hope to be able to get pictures of the pictures up in a couple of days (no working scanner here, and the camera I used last time is at the office). _10:54 pm_[spiritdance] | Introducing a new community I thought that this community had been set up previously, but it looks like I was mistaken.filkbabies is intended to complement the Filkbabies mailing list, not to replace it. I've set it up as a moderated membership group, so you may not show up immediately, but I'll approve you as I get the email notices :-) I DO NO intend to moderate posting, other than to limit posting to group members.Anyone who is interested, but has trouble joining, let me know (reply to this post), and I can set up an invite. And if anyone would like to help as a moderator, drop me a line.(thanks for the germ of the idea, bardiclug) Current Mood: creative (2 Comments |Comment on this) |
