Is it enough? [Mar. 10th, 2011|06:57 pm]Fitter Larpers
I've started doing an exercise regime because I'm worried about an increase in my waist measurement. I really don't have much discipline, so I only manage about 20 sits and 20 push ups a day, coupled with a 2 mile brisk walk to work. I just wanted to ask am I kidding myself that this will help keep my waist trim? ** I have tried to curb back eating junk food, but usually snack on biscuits and / or a cream cake at least once a week.

100 Pushups, are you mad? [Nov. 29th, 2009|05:39 pm]Fitter Larpers
[**mood** |chipperchipper]So, I can't help but notice that many of you are doing the Hundred Pushups Challenge. Some of you are even doing sit-ups and squats challenges as well.Do they work? Are they any good? Have you been able to keep up the pace? And should I put my fat-arse into gear and try it?

Diet [Aug. 3rd, 2009|03:42 pm]Fitter Larpers
OK, so I'm still fat, and have decided to change my dietary habits.I'm considering cutting down on wheat products, sugary foods and butter.I use a lot of these, and alternatives would be very gratefully received.

A small but momentous step was taken today. [Jan. 5th, 2009|10:30 pm]Fitter Larpers
[Current Location |Home at PC] [mood accomplished]Cross posted to absintheskiss .I have posted this here as I feel you guys would understand just how this breaks the mould. But tonight, I went to the Monday night table top Mage game and didn't buy any chocolate, crisps, nibbles of any sort. And this is on top of having a rather crappy day and good excuse to indulge in a little comfort food (1st time driving test, alas it will not be my last). As far as I have seen in over 20 years, tabletop has equalled munchies since time (or Tunnels and Trolls) began. I guess this is about breaking habits, and links that we just take for granted, and RP and LRP has their own traditions regarding food and drink. It was suprisingly difficult, the chocolate craving was very strong and I had to talk myself out of it, and it also felt a little wierd to walk into the house without going into the Co-Op first. But I did notice I have a habit of buying stuff to 'share' and then end up eating at least 75% of it. Is it only me that does that? Anyway, enough rambling. It is a small thing I have done today, but I'm quite chuffed with myself for managing it.

Running [Dec. 28th, 2008|05:21 pm]Fitter Larpers
OK, I've not too much to moan about weight/size wise, but my fitness sucks. My aim is to get back to the level of fitness I had 10 years ago, when I could run 6 miles without dying partway through (or afterwards). I've just started to run again, and am currently managing a paltry 0.8 mile run round the streets near my house. I need to build up gradually as I am asthmatic and my lungs don't like nasty surprises. I also need to go back to cycling to work, which I did Spring thru' Autumn 2007 but have hardly done this year (its 6 miles each way, up and down hill). I've bought my OH a gym membership for Xmas so I am hoping his getting fitter will encourage me too. I have a new character to play in the New Year, and the premise is that she is fast and fit - so I have some work to do before April which is probably the earliest I will get to play her.

It's that time of year again isn't it? [Dec. 27th, 2008|01:46 pm]Fitter Larpers
Well, as Christmas continues I march ever onwards towards 17 stone. From the wrong direction. There is still a good amount of Yule log in the fridge, pate, and other goodies which may well tip me over the edge. However this is to be expected, and thoughts turn to repairing the damage in the year ahead. So, here are my plans taken from a purely larp point of view. The overall plan for the year is to get my BMI under 30. I hate the BMI but the medical profession insist on using the bloody thing. I am currently on 35.5 so to go from obese to merely overweight will suit me fine (I'm not designed for skinny at all). We are looking at going from a size 22/24 to a 16/18 (the size I was at my wedding). This will mean the following - I can run from one end of the field to the other whilst making combat calls and not looking a bloody idiot in doing so.I can run from one end of the field to the other without going dizzy, wanting to throw my lungs up, or not being able to move for several minutes.I can run from one end of the field to the other without relying on the bigger larpers lagging behind me getting nabbed by the monster crew.I can go on more missions in Stargate rather than staying on base because I will then be able to keep up with the action.I can run from one end of the field to the other AND BACK AGAIN!!!I can play a proper fighter in Legion of Dreams and look vaguely convincing in the role, rather than an overstuffed sausage in badly fitting fantasy armour.I can wear tight leather trousers and look good in them again.Corsets are a luxury, not a necessity (although they may still feature due to popular demand).I can climb up steep hills without gravity working so much against me.I can, maybe, manage to get up a sand dune at Candleston instead of my legs moving ineffectively on the spot like Wile Cayote.Replicate a certain picture but with the Union Jack, for a laugh, for the SG crowd. When crewing for a combat, I won't hope to be one of the first to die so I can lie down for a bit before respawning. Being able to wear a nice black strapless number at the next Stargate IC dinner (and yes, I can make this)So, how? Not eating like an idiot. More fruit and veg. Having a decent breakfast, not a snickers bar. I know the rules, just need to follow them. Using my work's gym alot more as it's virtually empty after work and has all the equipment I need. I hope to pass my driving test in the next couple of weeks so I can spend more time in the gym after work without worrying about missing the last bus home. Walking more. When I have moved house, the new place will be bigger so I will have room to use those funky DVD's that I have on my shelf (which includes Tae Bo, Belly dancing of various types, yoga etc so a good mix). Look I know I have said alot of this before, but this year has been, well rather unusual for me and the year ahead has it's own challenges. So let's see eh?

Just joined this community and I thought I'd post to see if anyone else practices T'ai Chi or QiGong as part of their workout.I'd also be interested to hear from anyone who has tried to use either of these exercise techniques within a LRP system. i.e Their character has practiced the form during the event.

[**mood** |amusedamused]Have decided to start swimming again.Every time I get self concious, I'm going to look at this, and remember that I was self concious about swimming when I was 12 and half stone as well.

I'm not dead... [Jan. 23rd, 2008|03:04 pm]Fitter Larpers
...I just haven't posted here in ages. However, when it got close to new year, I decided I need to get some exercise. I hadn't got any fatter - but I was certainly starting to feel unpleasantly flabby and useless. I don't normally make resolutions, but this new year I made one - I must do at least one exercise thing per week. This doesn't include walking as part of my commute or to go into town. However, it can be anything else.I realise this probably sounds very woolly and unchallenging. It is intentionally woolly - PE in school has given me an unassailable hatred of all forms of organised exercise (before school PE lessons made their mark, I used to actively enjoy organised exercise, including swimming, dancing and gymnastics). To avoid triggering this automatic response of hating it and being miserable, I need to allow myself to vary what I'm doing and when I'm doing it.As for unchallenging - well, I know myself. I know that in my case setting the bar too high doesn't motivate me, but has exactly the opposite effect. One exercise session per week is a bare minimum, and I'm hoping that I'll often exceed this.So far, I've kept the resolution with no problems (mostly by going swimming, but I also counted one LRP event that involved a lot of running in chainmail). I've also been walking more, and faster.I look exactly the same, but I already feel better.Anyone else still out there?
