The present study was aimed at exploring the communicative functions of status updates on Whatsap... more The present study was aimed at exploring the communicative functions of status updates on Whatsapp. Furthermore, how identities were established and represented through language were also examined. In line with the objective of study, the status updates were analyzed through Searle’s Speech Act framework. The sample consisted of 20 males and females in the age group of 22-40 years. There were more than 350 status updates collected for 3 weeks and then they were grouped according to their types. The results revealed that status messages were most frequently constructed with expressive speech acts (40%), followed by directives (25%) and assertives (20%). In addition, a new category of poetic verse, vulgar pictures, and emoticons were also found in the data. The findings also showed that various socialization patterns emerge through the sharing of feelings, information and ideas.

The paper presented to analyze Ahok’s speech on the governor electional in Jakarta through a Critical Discousre Analysis (CDA). The speeches are taken from his speech at Kepulauan Seribu. There are some aspects that analyzed namely: ideology and power in political discourse. By fragmenting each statement and then analyzing them deeply. The writer found that ideology and power often used in political speeches to resemble the speaker both positive and negative purpose as well as hidden agenda in a political domain.

The children also acquire their first language from them. Parents can provide environmental Input for gaining their children's language - first language, second language or foreign language. When the children learn new language, parents can advocate, motivate, show their interest in the language, be model to master it, or join in fun together with their children in learning the language. The aims of the research are to know the influence of parents' involvement on student English achievement in Madrasah Tsanawiyah Al-Husna Bogor. In doing the research, the writer applies the correlation technique to know the influence parent's' involvement on student English achievement. In this quantitative research, data are collected by using questionnaire, documentation, interview and observation. After doing the research, the writer finds that the influence of parents' involvement is adequate on third grade students of Madrasah Tsanawiyah Al-Husna Bogor English achievement especially in the National examination. It is showed by the result of the research (0,653) and (0.753). It belongs to strong correlation between those variables. It is clear that parents' involvement as the motivator, as the advocate in economy, as the monitor, and as the model is absolutely sufficient to support the students' English achievement.
Based on the result of the research, the writer gives suggestions, as follows (1) Parents should improve their engagement and role in their children's academic, because it can support the children's academic success, (2) Parents should have known that they are the front line who provides educational support for their children, (3) giving an assignment to children also must involve and increase their parents' involvement and (4) School should employ a meeting program continously with parents to discuss about the students' development in learning at school.

As the market has embraced CLIL as a weak form of bilingual education and an innovative component to include in General English coursebooks for EFL contexts. He investigate how CLIL is included in ELT coursebooks aimed at teenaged learners, available to teachers in Argentina. His is based on the content analysis of four series which include a section advertised as CLIL-oriented. He argued that such an erratic incorporation comes from the fact that CLIL remains underdefined and that for market reasons, publishers overstretch the scope of CLIL and forms of bilingual education, creating confusion among practitioners and school administrators and undermining CLIL's intended benefits in the classroom.
