_3:28 pm_[starthrilled] this too is an rp ad but player is mostly curious Hello there! Just checking in on this comm, saying hello, and posing a question. I recently picked up Drizzt over at gargleblasted, and while I long ago resigned myself to never having canonmates, I am curious as to whether there are rp'ers out there that play from this canon! _11:24 am_[rufustehshinra] Hello! Hey there, guys and gals. My name's Maddie. I'm pretty new to the series--I just started reading the Drizzt books in December and I haven't finished them all yet. (I figure I should just read one whole thing straight through and then move on to something else. XD;) Currently I'm waiting for the Hunter's Blades trilogy to arrive at my doorstep.Aside from introducing myself, this post does have a point. I'm looking for RP partners who are interested in character development and fun. I'm dying to try my hand with other people in this series. I currently play Drizzt at a small RP (taediumvitae_rp), and I'd like to do some goofing around over AIM or what-have-you.If anybody is interested, my AIM is xtheleadingmanx. Feel free to IM. ♥ Current Mood: calm (Comment on this)

_9:02 pm_[riverc0il] This May Be Good Bye to the Realms for this Reader Well, I just finished Paul Kemp’s latest trilogy. Without spoilers, it was good but not as good as the first Cale trilogy. Since it appears Elaine Cunningham’s sixth book in the S&S series was cancelled (DOH!) that may just be the last FR book I read after more than 15 years of following the Realms. After reading the Epilogue in Shadowrealm, I said “uh oh” and checked out Candlekeep to find out what the heck is going on. I figured “oh, just another RSE” or something dumb. But then I read up on the 4e switch and reshaping of the Realms... which apparently is happening without even describing the event in detail through a series about the very event that is doing the reshaping. For real? Perhaps the novel change has a bright spot in that Salvatore will FINALLY be forced to wrap up a series that jumped the shark a dozen years ago. :pI manage a bookstore. I know things are tough in publishing and I am sure Wizards is under tremendous pressure from corporate to strengthen the hits and limit the duds. The Realms have been sliding in the wrong direction for a while now. So a reboot may save the franchise is what these folks may be thinking. Or. Instead of rebooting the franchise, perhaps they alienate all the long time fans (who continue reading even though most books have gotten really really bad) while at the same time not drawing in any new readership. My opinion? Don’t fix it if it is not broken. They needed better and more talented authors rather than a whole new direction. The world is there for the taking. It just hasn’t been brought to life very well in recent years, IMO.So I am heading off in other directions for my reading pursuits and discovering non-realms fantasy authors I am LONG over due on reading. Currently delving into the Second Chronicles of Thomas Covenant by Stephen R Donaldson. Damn! How did Donaldson slip past me without me knowing? Maybe even better than Tolkien. Jury is still out. _10:31 pm_[mikoto] Hullo! Howdy ho all! New to the community and wanted to say hi.I'm home for Christmas, where most of my library of books are so of course I picked 'em up and have re-read the Avatar Trilogy, Prince of Lies, and am now on Crucible.I was mortified to see that the publication dates from these range from 88-93. I don't think I got them myself until the mid/late 90s!I'm not even sure what I'd pick up nowadays. I sort of feel so old school I'm not sure what would appeal to me. Can anyone suggest any good new FR material? :) (7 Comments |Comment on this)

_5:10 pm_[tobykikami] RP Advert Now that I've finished Ascendancy of the Last, some brave soul willing to play Eilistraee at hogwarts_hocus, particularly opposite Selvetarm (played by me) and Vhaeraun (not played by me) would make my day twice as much. So I thought I'd shout out here - any takers? Playing her from a point earlier in the canon's just fine too. Other Realms characters are also welcome, of course.Crossposted to my journal. _1:55 pm_[steelcontraband] First Post (Introductions) Hello, hello. I'm Aisha. I'm an avid (or rabid, depending on perspective) fan of the Forgotten Realms, and not just Salvatore either. Most people I meet who love FR only read Salvatore's works. In any case, I first got into the Realms sometime in 2001-2002 by picking up Sea of Swords. Since then, I've been reading FR books by Salvatore, Kemp, Cunningham, and Greenwood. I hope to be published with WotC sometime later this year.Enough of that.I want to know where I can dig up more extensive information of the Shadovar as well as the Empire of Netheril. I can't find the Lords of Darkness book anywhere which I am told has a lot of information on the Shadovar. So, for those of you who are waist deep in Forgotten Realms campaign books...enlighten me to pieces. Thanks! :) Current Mood: creative (8 Comments |Comment on this)

_1:31 am_[goatunit] Online D&D Campaign Hey guys. This is my first post in the community.I just wanted to let everyone here know that some friends and I are reviving a long-dead online campaign on IRC.If anyone is interested, here's the website. Still under construction, of course. The game is on irc.sorcery.net and the room is #Weary_WyvernIt's a Forgotten Realms game, but familiarity with the setting (and even with D&D) isn't necessary. It's based in a tavern, thirty miles South of Waterdeep. The really fun part of this game is that the tavern setting allows for open role-playing at any time, so there's plenty of social interaction and character development during downtime. Adventures will also be available from time to time, of course, which is where the majority of XP will be awarded.I hope there's some interest in joining up. If anyone needs help with finding an IRC client or anything else, just leave a comment below. (4 Comments |Comment on this)

_4:35 pm_[dinpik] City of Splendors: Book review (Spoilers. Read at own risk) It's not a horrible book, but it's not a good book, either.First off, a tip of the hat to Greenwood and Cunningham for at least referencing the Threat From The Sea, and making its aftermath part of the background. TSR/WotC deep-sixed the Threat plotline at the last minute, after several novels had been published; no game resources ever saw print, as far as I know. It's also good to see one of the many Major Developments that have gotten dropped over the years referred back to.However. There are problems with the rest of the book. Mainly, the Eight-Word Question -- "Do I care what happens to these people?" -- is only partially answered in the affirmative. I care about Lark, who's the only new character who really comes across as an actual person, Naoni Dyre who's stuck with the kinda-sorta-maybe redeemed asshole Beldar Roaringhorn, and Elaith, whose attachment to Waterdeep seems to go deeper than leftover noblesse oblige from his Evermeet days. The Gemcloaks? Who cares? Two of them were place-holders (I can't even remember their names), and I pegged Korvaun as marked for death as soon as he started showing niggling signs of guilt. If City were a movie, he'd be nicknamed "Goose".The political tension between the citizens and the city's leader that led to the creation of the New Day interested me more than Lord Unity of the Amalgamation and his son Mreldar, who never forgot that Daddy didn't love him. Galkin (Gelkin? Whatever.) went from a semblance of competancy to meglomaniacal stupidity in record time, though. (Of course. It's the easiest way for the heros to win. Why bother with a challenge, after all?) And, despite the recent So Sayeth Ed commentary brought forth that no one in the Realms has any qualms about sexual exploitation ever, it seems there's still a social barrier between the nobility and the commonfolk. Wow. Whoda thunk it?!While it was necessary to get Khelban and Laeral out of the way, the latter's reaction to the apprentice's "We can only hope" statement is incredibly bitchy and uncalled for. Your master, one of the most powerful mages in the world let alone Waterdeep, has just been struck down. What the hell are you, an apprentice, going to be able to do about it?Speaking of uncalled for, so is Korvaun's panting after Asper. For the love of mud, Korvaun lives in a major city on top of a major dungeon, and he's never seen a hot chick in leather before? Suck(ed) to be you, my friend! It's just another example of catering to the Beavis and Butthead, looking-for-something-to-stroke-one-off-to mentality so prevalent among the fanboys. The fate of Naoni, betrothed to Beldar now impersonating the dead Korvaun, could be verrrry interesting to read about. It's one thing to make a vow; it's another entirely to live it. Not to mention the potentiail for resentment and rage to grow. (Bets on Cyric and Shar licking their lips over this "love-match"?) Since there won't be a sequel, we won't see any of this. I don't believe putting the book in The Cities series is to blame for the lack of sales, though. It's the book itself. Like I said at the beginning, it's not horrible, but it's not good, either. It's just sort of there.Current Mood: indifferent (Comment on this)

_2:53 pm_[bascule] Interview with Salvatore--teasers for Road of the Patriarch, title of next Drizzt novel revealed Lavender Eyes has just posted an interview with R.A. Salvatore. In it, he provides a few teasers about his upcoming Forgotten Realms novel, Road of the Patriarch, and reveals the tentative title of the next Drizzt book, The Orc King, which will carry on the Legend of Drizzt story where The Two Swords ended. He also confirms he is giving consideration to writing a prequel about Zaknafein and Jarlaxle, which will be set before Drizzt was born. He also talks a little about certain aspects of the writing business, touching on Anne Rice's reaction to Amazon.com reviewers and commenting on the dismissive belief some people have about tie-in novels all being "rubbish", for example. _11:29 pm_[dinpik] Something that's been bugging me Was there a reason in Crown of Fire for Shandril and Narn and Delg to have to tramp from the Dalelands to Silverymoon on foot? Didn'tt anybody (Elminster, the Simbul, Aluriel, etc) know of a gate to get them there faster? Or closer? (15 Comments |Comment on this)

_2:11 am_[lady_shadowlily] War of the Spider Queen wallpapers Hello all,I'm new here, and I have a favor/question to ask: did any of you happen to download the wallpapers for the War of the Spider Queen series that were up on Wizards' website? They seem to be gone, and I'm completely in love with the artwork. If anyone has them and could shard them with me, I'd be eternally grateful. Thanks! (6 Comments |Comment on this)
