Living frugally can be hard when you're a fan. Either you're stuck at home while all your friends are off having fun at a con you can't afford to go to, or you're getting odd looks on other frugal living groups because you just spent hundreds of dollars on imported DVDs. What' s a fan to do?
This is a community where fannish folk can learn to live frugally. Living frugally means spending your money wisely (as opposed to not spending it at all). Maybe for you that means pinching every penny until it screams, or maybe it just means cutting back here and there so you have extra cash where you want it. All types of frugal lifestyles are welcome here.
On topic posts include:
- Tips, tricks, questions, suggestions, and anything that relate to trying to live a frugal lifestyle
- Links and book recommendations on how to live a frugal lifestyle
- Discussion of how to simplify one's life by eliminating unnecessary things
- Rants, venting, or general needs to commiserate when living the frugal life gets you down
- "Fannish freecycling": offering items that are no longer wanted for free, or cost of postage
- Notices of sales that are available to anyone on the web
- Notices of local sales (behind a cut tag, where the tag specifies store name and geographical location)
- Recipes that help use up food and/or keep you on budget (behind a cut-tag, please)
Things not to be posted here include: - Offers where you get a benefit for how many people you refer. eg "If five people do this, I earn a free iPod."
The key word for this community is support. We're here to provide help and encouragement, so flamewars shall not be tolerated. We all have our own ways of handling our cash, and in the end everyone's personal decisions must be respected, be they about bottle vs. breast, Wal-Mart vs local shops, penny-pinching vs dollar stretching, or anything else you can think of. Discussion, tips, tricks, suggestions, and support are good. Insults and attacks are not, and will be deleted accordingly.
Finally, all forms of fans are welcome here regardless of fandom, or fannish preferences (eg gen, het, or slash), or their current status in life (eg age, sexuality, gender, marital status, etc).
If you have any questions, don't hesitate to email the mod, or check out our memories section.
