Enrichment of medicinal plants with biologically active compounds which induce various chemo-ther... more Enrichment of medicinal plants with biologically active compounds which induce various chemo-therapeutic effects has made a good turn and philosophy in the science of pharmacology. In the light of the popular notion of the use of Combretum racemosum and Euphorbia hirta as potent ethnopharmaceutical botanicals, this study was done to determine the trypanocidal activity of the ethanol leaf extracts of the plants against Trypanosoma brucei brucei which was induced in Swiss albino mice. The animals were inoculated intraperitoneally (IP) with trypanosome load of 10 6 , and were then kept under standard conditions for 10 days to enable circulation and reproduction of the parasite within them. Parasitaemia level was detected and analysed via microscopy. Both plants proved positive by overall reduction in the mean parasitaemia level as the days progressed at concentrations of 50,100 and 200mg/kg body weight respectively. Acute toxic dose for analysis of the high dose extract toleration was ...

Meanwhile, the inhibition performance and mechanism of SBOB for mild steel (MS) in HCl medium were combined to investigate by weight loss, potentiodynamic polarization, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy and quantum chemical calculation. The potentiodynamic polarization results indicate that SBOB is a mixed-type inhibitor. All experimental results are in good agreement and reveal that the corrosion inhibition increases with the concentration of SBOB. Weight loss results indicate that the inhibition efficiency decreases with HCl concentration and temperature increasing, but the corrosion inhibition performance of SBOB keeps almost unchanged after ultra-long storage time due to the formation of inhibitor film by the physisorption and chemisorption of SBOB on MS surface.

In the light of the popular notion of the use of Combretum racemosum and Euphorbia hirta as potent ethnopharmaceutical botanicals, this study was done to determine the trypanocidal activity of the ethanolic leaf extracts of the plants against Trypanosoma brucei brucei which was induced in Swiss albino mice both plants proved positive by overall reduction in mean parasitaemia level as the days progressed from time of intraperitoneal extract administration at concentrations of 50, 100, 200mg/kg body weight. Acute toxicity was also checked for by a 1000mg/kg body weight administration of the extracts, while diminazene aceturate, a standard trypanocidal drug was used as control. Combretum racemosum showed best trypanocidal activity at 200mg/kg, and Euphorbia hirta was best at 50mg/kg. Following administration of diminazene aceturate (control) the parasites were cleared within four days of administration. The results were confirmed with statistical analysis at 5% degree of freedom (p<0.05), thus hold credence to a possible utilization of Combretum racemosum and Euphorbia hirta as trypanocidal agents.
Production of corrosion inhibitor from Euphorbia heterophylla leaf extract via Maceration extract... more Production of corrosion inhibitor from Euphorbia heterophylla leaf extract via Maceration extraction method using ethanol, and estimation of its inhibition efficiency on mild steel in HCl medium at different pH levels, using weight loss method was being investigated.
The research was carried out using an environment of varying pH level, ranging from ph1.75-ph4.0; and varying concentration of extract from 4ml- 16ml in a 500ml acid environment. The results obtained reveal that the more acidic an environment, the higher the inhibition efficiency of the plant extract. It was observed that Euphorbia heterophylla leaf extract is an efficient anodic inhibitor in the acidic environment; The corrosion inhibition efficiency increased to an optimum of approximately 90% for 16ml extract in 0.5M HCl. The results obtained shows that the plant extracts inhibited the corrosion process by a spontaneous physical adsorption mechanism.
Key words: Euphorbia heterophylla leaf extract, HCl medium, weight loss method.
