@AA-Turner i see that upstream docutils is now typed, but missing a py.typed file.

at what point can the typed docutils replace the sidecar type stubs entirely?

Nowhere near that point yet. I've started adding some type annotations to DU, but there's been pushback on verbosity etc, so I've paused that work for now.
