Greetings Glaciologists: There has been a lot of hype lately about melting ice caps and global warming. My question to this community is what does the glacial record have to say about the ice cap record over the last 10,000 yrs? I am a little familiar with Greenland ice core studies that indicate that polar ice caps are well within the norms of Holocene change.

[**Current Mood** |working]Hey everyone, Is anyone going to the IGS symposium on Cryospheric Indicators of Global Climate Change in Cambridge in August? Or indeed the one on Earth and Planetary Ice-Volcano Interactions in Reykjavik in June? (I'm very jealous if you're going to that one!). The abstract deadline for Cambridge is on Feb 28th...

Hi- I'm not a student but I love mountains and geology and have a special fascination for glaciers. I'm a mountaineer mostly so I can spend time in glaciers.I think it all started when my Dad took me and my sister on a trip up Mt Rainier in 1969, the summer of love. We spent 4 days practicing crevasse rescue before summitting and I became hypnotized by the living, beautiful, and dangerous glacier. At 52, I am mountaineering again and spending as much time on the glacier as possible. And anyone doing a field study that needs enthusiastic amateurs to help out, let me know.So what a great idea for a community. I'm eager to learn.
