Punjabis have been emigrating to the different parts of the world; They followed different trends and patterns in different periods to different destinations. But, a totally new dimension was added in the profile of Punjabi emigrants after the oil boom in the Gulf countries. The ancient human migrations, the medieval resettlements of warring groups and the modern globalization are the different phases of human quest for the
creation of new civilization and also their need for progress and development. Such human
movements have generated the concept of diaspora which means human settlements away from their original homeland. Today, human mobility has become an integral part of the global
economy. For centuries Indians have been emigrating to different parts of the world, India has
the second largest Diaspora next only to Chinese. Now a day it is so widespread that the sun
never sets on the Indian Diaspora. Similarly Dalits of India form an important part of the global
Indian diaspora. Although the story of Indian diaspora is being told and retold many times by
several scholars all over the world, but very few have emphasised on the Dalit diaspora and it
various aspect such as emigration, settlement and perpetuation of culture in the diaspora etc.
Here an attempt is made to understand the presence of Dalits in different parts of the world by
exploring the available sociological literature. The paper tries to highlight some important aspects
of Dalit diaspora from India in the sociological literature with special reference to Punjabi Dalits
diaspora.

Until recently, population ageing was seen as a phenomenon occurring mainly in the developed countries of Europe and North America. It is now recognised that while both developed and developing countries are experiencing growing proportions of elderly, developing countries currently are ageing faster than developed countries. Senior citizens are an integral part of a population of any country who owe respect and attention equally like any other section. However, due to changing family structure and modernization, the elderly population is facing inevitable challenges to live their life respectfully. Loneliness, negligence and less importance, illness due to ageing and against lack of treatment are the most of the treacherous conditions which elderly are facing. On the other hand abuses against senior citizens are also common in the Punjabi society. Unfortunately, the abusers are their family members, ironically, on whom they depend upon the maximum. The problems of elderly in the modern families and abusive behaviour towards them are serious issues which are to be solved; otherwise it will harm the physical, mental and emotional condition of elderly in the Indian families inevitably and irreversibly. The paper tries to highlight the correlation between changing roles of families and their negative impacts on the elderly people.
