Are you an evolutionist who is tired of anti-science diatribes from people who insist that the Genesis 1 poem was meant as literal natural history?
Are you a Christian who is tired of the "God is Dead" slogans and the general attitude that science - specifically evolution - rules out God?
Are you a Christian and an evolutionist? This community is a haven for Christians who want to have intelligent discussions about evolution without being mocked or looked down on for their religious beliefs.
It's a community for anyone, Christian or atheist, creationist or evolutionist, who is interested in the dialogue between science and religion.
It is NOT a debate community - there are plenty enough of those. Posts such as, "How does ____ work in evolution?" or "How did _____ happen without 'intelligent design'?" are fine. Argumentative or flame-baiting posts will be deleted.
Our unofficial hero: Kenneth Miller, a Christian biologist at Brown University, and the author of Finding Darwin's God.
Authors of the highest eminence seem to be fully satisfied with the view that each species has been independently created. To my mind it accords better with what we know of the laws impressed on matter by the Creator, that the production and extinction of the past and present inhabitants of the world should have been due to secondary causes, like those determining the birth and death of the individual. When I view all beings not as special creations, but as the lineal descendants of some few beings which lived long before the first bed of the Silurian system was deposited, they seem to me to become ennobled. . . . There is grandeur in this view of life, with its several powers, having been originally breathed into a few forms or into one; and that, whilst this planet has gone cycling on according to the fixed law of gravity, from so simple a beginning endless forms most beautiful and most wonderful have been, and are being, evolved.
