| Well, I'm reading Oswald Spengler's The Decline of the West right now, and it talks greatly about Plato being part of the Being (the mathematical rigidity of the world) in Classical culture. I would be happy to discuss anything concerning Plato with you, but please understand. Asking someone to discuss Plato is not like asking him to discuss current events; there is a great deal to discuss there, and there are no obvious starting points. Therefore, it would be a great help if you could, perhaps, give us something to go on. What in particular has struck you about the Apology and the Crito? I read and discussed both those works in my first year at St. John's College, and whenever a class discussion was about to begin, it would begin with someone asking an opening question. From there, discussion (and sometimes argument) would follow its own course; but a common start is essential. Therefore, give me an opening question, whatever you like, and I will discuss it with you to your heart's content. |
Well, I am reading some Plato these days with a friend. I would be interested in people's thoughts - that be whether they are interested in having a discussion over one of Plato's works. Let me know.
