Due to this development, the need of agile and reconfigurable production systems emerged to cope with various products and product families. To design and optimize production systems as well as to choose the optimal product matches, product analysis methods are needed. Indeed, most of the known methods aim to analyze a product or one product family on the physical level. Different product families, however, may differ largely in terms of the number and nature of components. This fact impedes an efficient comparison and choice of appropriate product family combinations for the production system. A new methodology is proposed to analyze existing products in view of their functional and physical architecture. The aim is to cluster these products in new assembly oriented product families for the optimization of existing assembly lines and the creation of future reconfigurable assembly systems. Based on Datum Flow Chain, the physical structure of the products is analyzed. Functional subassemblies are identified, and a functional analysis is performed. Moreover, a hybrid functional and physical architecture graph (HyFPAG) is the output which depicts the similarity between product families by providing design support to both, production system planners and product designers. An illustrative example of a nail-clipper is used to explain the proposed methodology. An industrial case study on two product families of steering columns of thyssenkrupp Presta France is then carried out to give a first industrial evaluation of the proposed approach.

The generic product configuration which factories the similarities between the product types, may be used to facilitate the production by permitting the delay differentiation. In this research, the role of business object in the construction of generic product configuration is studied. Then the rules which are used in the procedure of structuring the generic and specific product configuration are presented. These rules are based on the” variability points” method. The principal concept of this method is identifying the major variability's of different products by finding the dependencies of their properties. The industrial case is used to develop and validate the results is the culinary articles. In this case, the generic product configuration is constructed by this method.

Business Intelligence (BI) aims to support business users to make decisions by providing methods ... more Business Intelligence (BI) aims to support business users to make decisions by providing methods and tools to easily access and manage their information. Even if many organizations have employed BI applications, not all of them have been successful. Therefore, it is important to ensure that they fit business and users' needs in terms of information, knowledge and decision. In this paper, a proposal to apply BI for BI is elaborated. Analysing a BI system based on BI techniques is our main contribution and it is the core of our proposal. While involving users, our proposal aims to identify BI indicators and dimensions and to propose a system architecture allowing to analyse the current BI environment and make decisions about its use. A case study at STMicroelectronics has been conducted since it uses a BI system for making decisions.

Unfortunately, PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) systems which are dedicated to support design activities are not efficient as it might be expected. Indeed, design processes are changing, emergent and non deterministic whereas PLM systems, based on workflow technology, don’t support process flexibility. So, needs in terms of process support flexibility are necessary to facilitate the coupling with the business reality. Furthermore, Service Oriented Architectures (SOA) enhances flexibility and adaptability of composed solutions. Systems based on SOA have the ability to inherently being evolvable. An approach to characterize these knowledge is proposed. The solution is applied to the Reporting process at STMicroelectronics for capitalizing knowledge in the Wiki of the company and responding to users' needs. In such an approach, the user participates throughout the knowledge representation definition process, even in choosing knowledge characteristics to represent it. For that aim, three dimensions are taken into consideration: the know What, the know Why and the know How .
