The basic principles of Health At Every Size (HAES) as outlined by the Association for Size Diversity & Health are:
Accepting and respecting the diversity of body shapes and sizes.
Recognizing that health and well-being are multi-dimensional and that they include physical, social, spiritual, occupational, emotional, and intellectual aspects.
Promoting all aspects of health and well-being for people of all sizes.
Promoting eating in a manner which balances individual nutritional needs, hunger, satiety, appetite, and pleasure.
Promoting individually appropriate, enjoyable, life-enhancing physical activity, rather than exercise that is focused on a goal of weight loss.
-------------------------------------------------------
There are many size-acceptance and health-related communities here at LiveJournal, but I couldn't find any specifically devoted to the HAES approach. At the moment I'm not sure what I want to do with this community, other than post HAES-related research articles for my own reference.
What I do know is that this community is not the place for the standard obesity-panic rhetoric, size or weight prejudice, promotion of eating disorders, body image phobias, flaming or name-calling.
HAES is about acceptance of self and others, caring for our bodies, and living well.
