I apologize in advance if this is an ignorant question. I'm not trying to sound stupid. I've only had Syrian hamsters before, dwarves are new to me.Two days ago, I got 2 dwarf hamsters. One is a Russian, the other is Chinese. They live together in a 10 gallon aquarium. They've lived together since they were babies, and don't appear to be fighting at all. They sleep curled up together and generally like eachother's company. Do you think they will begin fighting when they get older, or do you think they are okay to stay together?Okay, here's the more important question. The Russian is a girl, the male is Chinese. Will they breed? Would it be successful? Would the hamsters turn out mutated or unhealthy? Would it harm the female? I've heard a number of different answers, which is why I'm asking, just to be safe. I've heard all hamsters are hamsters, and that they'll breed fine. The man at the pet store that sold me my hamsters said babies were "guaranteed", yet a few websites I looked at say it shouldn't be done. So I figured I would ask the experts. :) If you have any links to helpful information for me, I would appreciate it.Again, I apologize if I sound stupid. I don't mean to.Thank you for your help. :)

Hamster Tip No.1 | [01 Dec 2003|05:27pm] |

My Hamster LOVES to move house a lot!!!! She's lived in a regular pet store ham house, then she lived in a Pringles Tube, then an old shoe, then back to the Pringles tube, and now she's moved into the Petting Zone of her Critter Trail cage. When I first put the Pringles tube in her cage I intended it to be just a toy, like a little hidy hole. But a day later I discovered that she had spend the night tirelessly moving her food stash and all of her bedding, and her bone, into the Pringles tube. Thus, I had to redisign it to make it into a suitable home.Pringle Tube House1. Buy a tube of Pringles brand potato chips/crisps. Preferably a neat, smelly flavour like sour cream and onion or cheese and onion.2. Eat the Pringles.3. Wipe out the inside of the tube with a dry cloth so that the yummy smell remains.4. Leave the lid off as a front door.5. Cut a hamster sized hole towards the bottom of the tube as a back door.6. Poke lots of holes in the tube for ventelation so that the tube doesn't get all smelly and sweaty. Hamsters pack a lot of heat when they are sleeping!7. Use a bit of cotton string to secure the tube to the side of the cage so it doesn't role around too much.P.S, At this point Maggie and I also developed this neat little system where she would put her bedding outside her house one a week or more, when it was dirty. Then I would take the dirty bedding away and giver her new bedding to put in her house on her own. I think she thought it would keep me away from her food stash. *cackle* Little did she know that I still checked it when she goes into her rolly ball.
