Learn to troubleshoot issues related to how to log in to The Athletic and access your subscription on a web browser or through the New York Times mobile apps.

The Athletic shares login credentials with The New York Times. To access The Athletic, login with your New York Times account credentials. If you do not have a New York Times account you will be prompted to update your login information when you log in to The Athletic.

With this transition, The Athletic readers are being asked to update their login information to ensure continuous access to personalized reading experience with their existing team and league preferences.

Your credentials for The Athletic can be used to sign into The New York Times. Unlimited access to The Athletic is available with standalone The Athletic subscriptions as well as New York Times All Access and Home Delivery subscriptions.

When logging in, we recommend using the email address associated with your The Athletic subscription.

When updating your login information, you may be prompted to verify your email with a six digit verification code. When logging in, we recommend using the email address associated with your The Athletic subscription.

If you are prompted to verify your email, following these steps:

  1. Check your email for the six digit verification code.
  2. Enter the six digit code you received via email into the verification code text box.
  3. If verification was successful you will be prompted to reset your password.
  4. Your login has been updated! Select Continue.

If the verification code is not working:

  1. Select Request a New Code.
  2. Attempt to input the new code using the steps above.
  3. If verification was successful, you will be prompted to reset your password.

If you didn’t receive the code in your email:

  1. Check your spam or junk folder.
  2. Confirm the email is spelled correctly by returning to The Athletic verify your email address page.
  3. If your email address is spelled correctly select, Request a New Code.
  4. If your email address is incorrect, return to the login page and update your email address.

There may be a variety of reasons you are unable to log in or access your account. In most cases, login issues occur due to incorrect login credentials (such as using an email address not associated with your subscription), rather than an issue with your account or subscription.

Why am I seeing a message about limited access to The Athletic?

New York Times All Access, Home Delivery, or The Athletic subscribers have unlimited access to The Athletic.

If you are unsure what type of subscription you have, view your subscription type and benefits in the Subscription Overview section of Account.

If you would like to add The Athletic to your subscription, you can change your subscription to All Access or Home Delivery.

I have a subscription that includes The Athletic but don’t see it in my Subscription Overview:

If your account with The Athletic is not linked to a New York Times account, it will not display in the Subscription Overview. Follow the instructions in this self service option: theathletic.com/link-account/.

If you have a New York Times All Access, Home Delivery, or The Athletic subscription and cannot access The Athletic you may have accidentally created a new account with no subscription. Try logging in with another email address and going to the Subscription Overview section of Account to confirm if The Athletic is included.

If you have two different logins for The Athletic and The New York Times and need to link the two together for one seamless login experience, follow the instructions in this self service option: theathletic.com/link-account/.

If the email address that populates when you attempt to login is not the one associated with your subscription, edit the email in the text box to reflect the correct email address.

Note: This may require you to verify your email address using a 6-digit code.

If the email address displayed is a private relay email address (example@privaterelay.appleid.com), select the Sign in with Apple option when logging in moving forward.
