This study of freshman engineering students enrolled at Imam Abdulrahman Bin Faisal University (I... more This study of freshman engineering students enrolled at Imam Abdulrahman Bin Faisal University (IAU) in Saudi Arabia investigated the relationship between the students’ attitudes and their demographic characteristics. Specifically, the study assessed the relationship between students’ demographic characteristics and how the characteristics related to five variables associated with attitudes toward mathematics: attitude toward success in mathematics, confidence in learning mathematics, mathematics anxiety, awareness of the usefulness of mathematics, and effectance motivation in mathematics. A total number of 157 male students enrolled in Calculus 1 participated in the survey. Findings revealed that the freshman engineering students had positive attitudes toward mathematics; furthermore, the results indicated that there are positive relationships between the fathers’ career types and all the five attitudes of the students toward mathematics. Also, the mothers’ career types and geographical regions had a positive relationship with students’ confidence in learning mathematics. In contrast, the findings indicated that there are a negative relationship between mothers’ educational levels and two of the students’ attitudes (confidence in learning mathematics and mathematics anxiety). Similarly, students’ attitudes toward success in mathematics were also impacted by their nationalities.
Interviews with 26 participants helped the researcher to discover students’ ideas about the survey's questions in greater depth. The results of the interview indicate that the freshman engineering students’ attitudes are more affected by their fathers and their teachers. The reasons that form students’ attitudes toward mathematics can be divided into two parts: internal and external. The internal reasons result from the students themselves, which includes practice and preparation, assessments and grades, English language effect, time management, pride in themselves, competition with their colleagues, weak mathematical foundation, consideration of mathematics as a favorite subject, pressure of other courses, awareness of the relationship between mathematics in their daily lives and mathematics within other scientific subjects, awareness of the relationship between mathematics and their engineering major, and awareness of the benefit of mathematics in their future careers. The external reasons include teachers’ characteristics, parental support, and respect from their fathers.

The results also illustrated that there is a positive correlation at the 0.01 level between self-efficacy and the practice of the standards among the participating female teachers. The study recommends the importance of integrating the sources of self-efficacy related to the practice of Next Generation Science Standards in the teacher training programs because of its benefit in the teachers' practice of those standards. The current study also suggests conducting more future studies on the effectiveness of training programs based on Next Generation Science Standards and their impact on the development of self-efficacy and science teaching for female middle school teachers.

To achieve this goal, the dimensions of tolerance were determined; which are cultural tolerance, religious tolerance, and political tolerance; and a scale was built to measure them. The study used a descriptive analytical method obtaining data from (40) male and female students who were randomly selected from among the students at the College of Education at Imam Abdulrahman bin Faisal University. The results showed that the level of tolerance is average. This may well reflect the dilemma of not spreading and deepening the idea of tolerance among university students. Also, the findings demonstrated that there are no differences between the students due to the variables (gender-academic major) in the level of tolerance. The study recommends the need to enhance the dimensions of tolerance among students and to include them in the preparation programs, to pay attention to activities that help to enhance the dimensions of tolerance, and to spread a culture of tolerance.

Most countries closed their educational institutions and suspended the attendance educational act... more Most countries closed their educational institutions and suspended the attendance educational activities hoping to reduce the spread of the Coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19) and switch to distance learning using various educational platforms. The current research reviews the effects of Corona virus "Covid-19" pandemic on education, under the conditions of distance learning. A specific detailed methodology was used to select the chosen studies including key words filter phase, publisher filter phase, and abstract filter phase. The researchers conclude with 44 articles reviewed from different countries of the world and quoted their experiences. Results indicated that students and teachers considered the distance education to be a lifeline in the success and continuation of the educational process during the COVID-19 even though there were several challenges faced students, parents, and teachers. Further investigation showed that the using distance learning enabled students to become more independent in their learning. It is suggested to conduct comparative studies on the preventive methods that universities were used to reduce the impact of the pandemic and compare them with the procedural steps taken by schools (from elementary to high school) to determine the best methods that can benefit the rest of the educational sectors.

Some of these programs are not able to fulfill the requirements of professional development because they neglect the impact of different interaction patterns (group and content-individual, content, and trainer-group, content, and trainer) within the e-training environment. This research used the experimental approach with a quasi-experimental design. The research sample was limited to a random sample consisting of 60 mathematics teachers, who were randomly divided into three experimental groups, equally. The results revealed that there are statistically significant differences at 0.05 between the average scores for middle school mathematics teachers in the post application of the cognitive achievement test, observation card, and product evaluation card related to the skills of producing interactive lessons due to the impact of the different interaction patterns in the e-training environment.

The aFSMAS was administered to 157 university students in Saudi Arabia. The results of a confirmatory factor analysis supported the four-factor correlated structure, which was chosen from the original instrument, based on several fit indices. Thus, the findings of this study provided evidence that confirmed the good psychometric properties of the aFSMAS. The present study provides a scale that is valid and reliable to measure the attitudes toward mathematics suitably for Saudis and Saudi culture. The scale may be a helpful tool for teachers and school counselors interested in determining individuals who may have low mathematics performance and achievement because of their attitudes.
