This paper discusses stimulating PSTs' pedagogical competence (PC) for TL through critical reflection on ELT practicum. Critical reflection on the teaching practicum experiences can stimulate PSTs in enhancing PC for their professional development in preparing for future teaching careers. Through critical reflection on the teaching practicum experiences, PSTs learn from the reflective practices to stimulate their PC, which is very influential in undergoing the teaching and learning process to achieve successful learning and improve students' learning achievement. In the process of critical reflection, PSTs' PC can be reflections toward better practices as the PC taxonomy shows its role in developing PSTs' PC. A design of intervention for the change of PSTs' beliefs of teaching and learning during the teaching practicum leads them to transform PC into practices. Critical reflection value becomes essential for teacher educators, and it would emphasize teacher education programs. It positively contributes to training and creating PSTs' habits of mind for continuous growth, and they would develop and advance in carrying out their teaching profession. Thus, critical reflection on the teaching practicum of the English education programs in the Indonesian EFL context becomes a stimulus for PSTs' professional development, particularly in stimulating PC for TL to frame their identity as professional teachers.

To highlight this issue, this paper conceptually discusses the current issue regarding national and international calls for teacher education, mainly critical reflection on teaching practicum in English teacher education programs. It highlights the concept of critical reflection as a potential strategy to develop preservice English teachers’ pedagogical competence. The discussion covers the role of critical reflection in English teacher education, critical reflection on English teaching practicum, and critical reflection as a potential strategy to develop preservice English teachers’ pedagogical competence. It is argued that critical reflection on English teaching practicum as a potential strategy or tool to develop preservice English teachers’ pedagogical competence can transform them into their identity as a teacher for the future teaching profession. As a personal evaluation strategy, critical reflection can be used to explore preservice English teachers’ weaknesses and strengths of teaching experiences for effective and efficient learning. To practically implement it, preservice English teachers need more in-depth reflection activities and a higher level of thinking. Moreover, the critical reflection would be as learning support mechanisms in the classroom during professional development, and it would raise teacher candidates’ identities as English teachers and transform them into reflective practitioners. Hence, critical reflection in the English teacher education program becomes a key element for preservice teachers’ professional development, particularly for pedagogical competence development. Finally, the paper contributes to enlightening readers or researchers in understanding critical reflection as an alternative strategy to develop preservice English teachers’ pedagogical competence.

To tackle the problems with my Essay Writing class, I took action innovatively to run online learning by taking an Edmodo digital platform as a space for virtual learning. The digital platform with innovations helped the students engage in online collaborative writing and improved their writing skills. This chapter discusses how I could run the writing class successfully as my best practice integrating Edmodo digital platform into collaborative writing in online learning during the pandemic. This chapter lies under the theoretical frameworks of social cognitive learning and collaborative learning that postulate knowledge of student learning outcomes emerging from social experiences and observations in learning activities. Some innovations I made in the writing class assisted with the Edmodo digital platform were carried out through teaching scenarios in three parts of the course during one semester: part one focusing on Edmodo use in collaborative writing, part two centering on essay writing theory, and part three concerning essay writing practice. Based on the implementation of collaborative writing instruction with the Edmodo digital platform, I can reflect on my writing instruction as follows: the online collaborative writing instruction was very useful due to learning features and some innovations, Edmodo as a potential instruction tool can be applied for future application in post-pandemic with modification, and the modification should stress on the practical and technical ways to encourage all team members in collaborative writing learning engagement in Edmodo small group where the social cognitive learning through collaborative learning can be applied.

The practice of PBL is also practical and purposeful to encourage the students to learn creatively based on their fields of interest. In the classroom of Scientific Writing course, the students tend to be encountered with the real problem, producing a research proposal. It will become the crucial issue for the obligation to undergraduate thesis writing as the real-world investigation in the next semester. It might also become the challenge in their future life after graduation. Therefore, with the power of PBL through research proposal writing, it leads the student writers to develop the writing skill. In an attempt to deal with the challenging problem, this paper introduces the appropriate teaching procedures to lead to the success of implementation of PBL in Scientific Writing class. More importantly, since PBL is both process and product oriented, writing process in the writing instruction is discussed and implemented as well.

It reports on the findings of a study conducted at the State Islamic Institute of Palangka Raya in Central Kalimantan Indonesia to investigate: (a) what areas of peer response were focused on; (b) why the points of peer response were incorporated or not incorporated into revisions; (c) the suitability between peer response and writer expectation; and (d) what aspects of writing were improved with peer response. Research methodology included examining and analyzing drafts of peer response activities (the first and revised versions of student writing) of each session, questionnaire result, and interview transcription from peer response sessions. Results show that the areas of peer response gained from each session of peer response activities were focused much on the idea development, grammar, and mechanic. The points of peer response were incorporated into revisions because of its advantages to the developments of an essay in terms of grammar, essay structure and coherence, and were not incorporated into revisions because of irrelevant feedbacks. The suitable area between peer response and writer expectation was in terms of grammar accuracy. During peer response activities students engaged in the improvement of their writing ability, and the most improvements of the writing aspects were content and grammar.

Of the all four skills (listening, speaking, reading, and writing), writing is regarded as the mo... more Of the all four skills (listening, speaking, reading, and writing), writing is regarded as the most difficult skill for L2 learners to master. This fact is reasonable as writing involves the process of composing message, thinking of the language to use, taking care of diction, textual organization, and other mechanics. The trend problem in the writing class shows that student writers almost never expressed their ideas using process of writing and never used conference activity for giving feedback on their peers’ works for revision. Therefore, it needs a technique that helps them to work writing collaboratively with fun activities. In line with the dramatic problem and a way to solve it, the current composition theory supports the use of peer response focusing on the writing process more than the written product. It has created the process approach to teaching writing and has gained its popularity in writing classes. Research on computer-assisted language and learning theory also suggests that feedback or response can be provided either face-to-face or through the internet. Among many technologies, Facebook is the most popular social networking websites for college students. Through this paper, the presenter will outline guidelines for successfully implementing peer response activities via Facebook in writing class.
