Marvel Slips, DC Gains Ground (original) (raw)

Marvel Comics lost market share in Q4 2024, going from 39.9% in Q3 2024 to 33.3% in Q4, while DC Comics' share went up by almost the same amount. Their combined market share stayed almost the same, at 60%, suggesting that DC's gains came at Marvel’s expense. This is the second quarter in a row that the gap has narrowed (see "Market Shares – Q3 2024"), and it's a sharp contrast to the 13-point gap between the two in the year ago quarter (see "Market Shares – Q4 2024"). The changes suggest that DC's recent strategies, including introducing the "Absolute Universe" in October (see "DC to Launch ‘Absolute Universe’"), are working.

Image Comics and IDW Publishing stayed almost the same as in Q3, while BOOM! Studios dropped from 3.9% in Q3 to 3.1% in Q4, falling behind Dark Horse Comics, which stayed at 3.9%. Dynamite Entertainment, VIZ Media, Titan Comics, and Oni Press round out the chart, all staying close to their earlier shares. "All Others" went from 9.2% in Q3 to 9.7% in Q4, indicating that more sales are being spread out among the many other publishers in the market.
