About us
Launched in 2013 and becoming the first Unicorn company in Japan, Mercari Group is a Japan-based corporate group operating in both Japan and the US. Our mission is to create value in a global marketplace where everyone can buy and sell. Mercari is the largest marketplace platform with over 20 million monthly users in Japan. Through the Mercari app, users can sell their used or unwanted items to those who need them just by taking a photo and entering in some basic information. We are constantly developing our app to provide an environment where anyone can conduct transactions easily, safely, and securely. As part of these efforts, we have invested in the latest technologies such as AI and machine learning, and have released various functions such as escrow payment, AI listing, and barcode listing. The app currently operates in Japan and the US, with 5.6 million monthly users in the US (as of 2022.3). We have also successfully launched new businesses such as our mobile payment service Merpay. Today, Mercari Group is made up of multiple subsidiary businesses, including those involved in logistics, B2C e-commerce, blockchain, and sports team management. Mercari India located in Bengaluru will harness the infinite power of technology to create high-quality service where our people come together to build products that will further strengthen our leadership position in a global product market.

🌟 Japan Diaries: Collaboration, Adventure, and Epic Moments with Mercari! 🇯🇵✨ My Team —just got back from an unforgettable trip to Japan last month, and it’s got us all pumped up!💥 This trip was about more than just work. It was about connecting with our incredible colleagues in Japan, aligning on a shared mission, and soaking in the unique culture and energy that Japan has to offer. The office tour at Mori Tower gave us all a "wow" moment—the views of Tokyo were breathtaking! 🌆 We kicked things off with meetings that flowed faster and more effectively than ever—there’s nothing quite like in-person collaboration to get things moving. We also had an amazing workshop where we rolled up our sleeves with designers, engineers, and product folks, working together to shape our future. 🎯 We even had the chance to have lunch with our CEO of Marketplace, Mark-san, alongside other leaders and that was an experience an employee truly deserves! The conversations gave us deeper insight into Mercari's big-picture vision and our startup-like journey ahead. However it wasn’t all meetings—we got our adventure mode on! 🗻✨ From exploring Tokyo's vibrant streets to taking in the serene beauty of Mount Fuji, visiting Odawara Castle, and trekking through the tranquil trails of Nikko—it was a perfect blend of exciting work and incredible memories. One standout was climbing up to Arakura Fuji Sengen Shrine, where the view of Mount Fuji was breathtaking! A weekend well spent with some of the most motivated, creative, and talented individuals entering our industry! 🎉 It was an absolute privilege to mentor the Women’s Hackathon at the Mercari India office this weekend. The dedication, innovation, and hard work from these incredible college students were truly inspiring💡 The cherry on top? My team not only delivered an amazing solution but also won the hackathon! Watching them grow and push their boundaries was a learning experience in itself, and I was filled with pride to see their hard work pay off. A big shoutout to Snehal Shinde and Vish Magapu the judges, whose feedback and insights were invaluable, offering everyone—including myself—an opportunity to grow and learn. It was an incredible experience to be part of the Mercari Women Hackathon held on the 19th and 20th of October at the Mercari India office in Bangalore! 🎉 Being selected as one of the Top 30 women finalists and getting the chance to present our idea was an unforgettable experience. This was my first all-women hackathon, and the atmosphere was truly something special – a perfect mix of creativity, teamwork, and support! 💡 A huge thank you to Mercari India for organizing such a fantastic event. The entire team was not only welcoming but really encouraged us to #GoBold and push the boundaries of our ideas. Their support throughout made it clear that #AllForOne is more than just a motto – it’s how they work together and with us! 🙌 Shoutout to the entire Mercari, Inc. and Mercari India team for their exceptional hospitality! Every detail was thoughtfully planned, ensuring a seamless and enjoyable experience for all of us. Special thanks to Victoria A., Maho Hashimoto (Talent Acquisition), Snehal Shinde (Engineering Director), Vish Magapu (Senior Engineering Director), Anoushka Alexander (Brand Specialist), Nikita Punia (Mentor), and the whole team for their dedication and hard work. You all truly made this event unforgettable! It was also a pleasure working with my wonderful teammates TANISHA BANSAL, Anjita Gargi Chandora, and Sruti Sahini – you were a huge part of what made this experience so memorable! I also had the chance to meet and connect with so many brilliant women from other teams, each bringing their unique strengths and perspectives to the table. It’s been such an inspiring and motivating experience, and I’m walking away with new learnings, friendships, and a lot of positive energy! 😊 PS: Also the food, goodies and chocolates were great!! 😉
