The study investigated the effect of bullying in adolescents, as it relates to cases of victimiza... more The study investigated the effect of bullying in adolescents, as it relates to cases of victimization, vandalism and gangsterism which are threats to national security. The purpose of this study was to ascertain the existence of adolescent bullying in secondary schools and its attendant effects on national security. Two null hypotheses were formulated and tested at 0.05 level of significance. The sample for the study was 120 students who were randomly selected from junior and secondary schools. Primary data were collected with the aid of a structured questionnaire. The data collected were analyzed using Chi Square to test the relationships. The findings suggest that bullying among adolescent is related to national security while male adolescent bully differ significantly from female adolescent bullying. The study is significant in that it will help give an insight to solutions to the identified predisposing factors to youth involvement in electoral violence in Lagos metropolis. The descriptive survey research design was employed. A sample of One hundred and fifty male and female youth of Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos State, Nigeria who were randomly selected was used for the study. Two hypotheses were formulated to guide the study. A self-designed questionnaire by the researchers titled Youth Involvement in Electoral Violence Questionnaire was used to obtain data. The study investigated the counselling needs of Nigerian youths in the current political dispensa... more The study investigated the counselling needs of Nigerian youths in the current political dispensation. The population for the study was made up of all youths in Nigeria between 18-35 years old. A descriptive surveywas adopted for the study. The sample for the study comprised 500 (five hundred) youths who were randomly selected from three senatorial districts of Lagos State . A research question and two hypotheses were formulated to guide the study. A self- designed questionnaire Counselling needs of Nigerian Youths Questionnaire (CNNYQ) was used to obtain data from the participants. The t-test was used to analyze the two hypotheses tested at 0.05 level of significance. The two hypotheses were accepted. Based on the findings of the study, it was recommended that government at all levels in Nigeria should employ the services of counsellors in formulating policies for her youths.

The study adopted the descriptive survey design involving 240 students from the Faculty of Education in the two public universities in Lagos State. A questionnaire on the predisposing factors towards examination malpractice (PFTEMQ) was developed by the researchers to source for data. One research question was raised and two hypotheses were generated for the study and tested at 0.05 level of significance. Findings revealed that students, academic staff and the university authorities were contributory factors in the incidence of examination malpractice; also, gender and age are no indices for examination malpractice among students. In view of this, the implications for counselling were highlighted.

This paper examined the strategies for achieving quality assurance in science education in Akwa I... more This paper examined the strategies for achieving quality assurance in science education in Akwa Ibom State of Nigeria. The design adopted for this study was survey design. A total of 300 science teachers randomly selected from the technical colleges and secondary schools took part in the study. Strategies for Achieving Quality Assurance in Science Education Questionnaire (SAQASEQ) was the instrument used in gathering data for the study and the reliability coefficient was 0 .79 using Cronbach alpha. The results showed an insignificant difference existing in the salaries and allowances given to science teachers and other teachers. The results also showed that there were more qualified science teachers in secondary schools than technical colleges. The results equally indicated that science equipment currently available in technical colleges and secondary schools were inadequate and students in technical colleges utilize science equipment more than the students in secondary schools. Conclusion from the findings led to the recommendation of various strategies for achieving and maintaining quality assurance in science education in Akwa Ibom State of Nigeria.

Entrepreneurial intention is a strong desire to start a new business or improve the existing o... more Entrepreneurial intention is a strong desire to start a new business or improve the existing one now or in future. It is a behaviour that could stem from several factors. Lack of entrepreneurial intention could lead to high rate of unemployment. This paper therefore, examined predictors of entrepreneurial intention among students in Lagos State University and its counselling implications. One research question and two hypotheses were formulated to guide the research. The sample consisted of 130 students randomly selected from the Lagos State University (LASU). A 40-item questionnaire titled “Predictors of Entrepreneurial Intention Inventory” (PEII)was designed for data collection and its reliability coefficient stood at 0.78. The study adopted the descriptive survey design and data analysis was carried out with the use of simple percentages and multiple regression analysis. Results showed that there is a strong and significant relationship between predictors and entrepreneurial intention of students in the Nigerian University. The results also revealed that personality traits, social factors and societal factors are the strongest predictors of entrepreneurial Intention among students. Therefore, counsellors, educators and policy makers are expected to develop various strategies and programmes that will stimulate these factors in students.

Stratified random sampling technique was adopted to select 2,400 students from the two universities. Perceived effects of Drug Abuse Scale (PEDAS) was administered to the respondents to collect relevant data. Data collected were analysed using the chi square test and twelve 2x5 contingency chi square tests were computed. Results revealed significant gender difference in students perception of drug abuse leading to risk of contacting AIDS, memory loss and confusion, suffocation, accident, high rate of crime and death. Strategy for counselling was proposed for youth to abstain from drug use.

While job creation has been a challenge for the Nigerian government in the recent years, little attention has been paid to the attitude towards job search and the search behaviour among unemployed youths in the country. This study attempts to address some of the issues on youth employment by focusing on proffering useful intervention. The study adopted a qualitative approach through the use of focus group discussion in obtaining relevant information from the study participants. Results shows that majority of job seekers shows attraction to white collar jobs. A variety of job search challenges were also highlighted.

Examination is viewed as the test of one’s intelligence and integral part of the school system. They are used at different levels of our educational system as formal instruments of assessing the outcome of learning. In an open society like Nigeria, status is not by aspirations but by achievement(even aspirations or expectation are high but resources for attaining them are limited. To guide against failure and its negative effect on the unsuccessful individual, he/she resorts to achieving success by all cost, hence the upsurge of examination malpractice in the present day. This paper examines the environmental influences on examination malpractices. Against this background, the paper examines what the government and society could do to curb these malpractices.

The study focused on age factor in the prevalence of drug abuse among students in Lgos Universiti... more The study focused on age factor in the prevalence of drug abuse among students in Lgos Universities. A total of 2,400 students made up of 1,200 .ales amd 1,200 females were asked to respond to two instruments- the personal data card (PDC) and the prevalence of drug abuse scale.(PDAS). Drug abuse wre classified into eight namely: Sedatives, Narcotics, Stimulants, Carnabis, Hallucinogens, Volatile Solvents, other drugs and designers drugs. One hypothesis was formulated for the study and statistically analfsed using the one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA). Results indicated significant ag difference in the prevalence of the abuse of narcotics, sedatives, caenabis, volatile solvents and other drugs. However, abuse of stimulants, Hallucinogens and designer dugs seems to be independent of age of students. Based on this findings, implications were given for counselling purposes.

Three Nigerian languages , Yoruba, Hausa and Igbo are those that are in the real focus. Their real internalization seemed to have been impaired largely owing to a myriad of problems such as books, facilities and the required human resources. Amongst the identified solutions are that inadequate human resources should be tacked immediately in producing qualified teachers, besides the government should provide adequate fund to “arrest” the paucity of teaching language materials in schools.

The study investigated the effectiveness of two treatment strategies on the reduction of risky se... more The study investigated the effectiveness of two treatment strategies on the reduction of risky sexual behaviours among adolescents in Lagos state, Nigeria. A total of 120- 60 males and 60 females senior secondary school adolescents served as participants for the experiments. The participants were selected after an initial survey of 612 senior secondary school adolescents. The adolescents who indicated that they have had a sex before in the Personal Data Questionnaire and those who scored 32 points and above in Risky Sexual Activity Scale made up the sample used for the study. The experiment spanned through a period of eight weeks with six training sessions on goal setting and self-efficacy. Each lesson lasted for 1 hour per week. Data generated from the study were analysed and the findings showed that goal setting is a more effective treatment. Furthermore, the findings establish the prevalence of risky behaviours and some reduction strategies.
