A cross-sectional study design was conducted to investigate the relationship between serum vitamin D status and CMD risk (obesity, type 2 diabetes mellitus, hypertension, and dyslipidemia) among 302 apparently healthy adults, aged 25 to 59 and of northern decent in Ghana. Biochemical analysis was done to determine serum total cholesterol (TC), Triglycerides (TG), High Density Lipoprotein (HDL), Low Density Lipoprotein (LDL), Fasting Blood Glucose (FBG), Glycated Haemoglobin (HbA1c) and serum vitamin D levels of participants. Anthropometric assessment was also done and BMI, WC, HC, Blood Pressure, WHR, Body Fat (BF) and visceral fat percentages were obtained. Analysis was done using SPSS (version 25). We evaluated CMD risk factors to predict vitamin D status using binary and multiple linear logistics regre...

The clinical presentations that the disease elicits range from mere opisthotonos to more sinister complications, including respiratory failure and death, often posing an insurmountable challenge for hospitals. A retrospective cross-sectional study was conducted and analyzed the medical charts of 43 patients with a confirmed diagnosis of tetanus infection. The charts were perused for the patients' demographics, clinical characteristics, and disease outcomes. The prevalence of various clinical symptoms and complications were reported in terms of frequencies and percentages. The mean age of the patients hovered at 29.53 ± 16.53 years, with a range of 12 to 65 years. Of those affected, 83.7% were males while 16.3% were females. Notably, none of the infected patients had a prior history of vaccination against tetanus. Trismus was noted to be the most prevalent clinical manifestation and was found in 90.70% of the patients while paraesthesia at the site of infection, found in 6.98%, was the least prevalent. The overall mortality was noted to hover at 46.5%. While tetanus has largely been eradicated, its prevalence in Pakistan remains alarmingly high. The complications noted in the study have implications for the country's public health system and aims to better inform the current state of the national vaccination program.

The question of interest is to find out if there is a change in mean weight gain by children under five year over time and if the factors (age, feeding type, feeding practice gender etc) influence those changes. The data was collected from 210 children put into three groups of ages 0-6 months, 7-12 months and 13-18 months on monthly bases for a total of 1260 observations. Three feeding types: exclusive breast feeding, breast feeding with introduction of plumpy nut food supplement and completely complementary feeding. Univariate ANOVA and multivariate MANOVA techniques were use to analyzed the data. Both random effect and fixed effect models shown to be better for the data. Age, feeding type and feeding practices were the factors that did not support the null hypothes...

In the case of the analytic modeling, this paper discusses a simple continuous model for the spread of Domestic Violence, using Ordinary Differential Equations. A mathematical model is inspired from the spread of Domestic Violence in Tamale Metropolitan in which the interaction of the widespread is likely to be minimized. A modeling technique Abusive, Susceptible and Violence Victims (ASV), similar to the Susceptible, Infectious and Recovered (SIR) model in Epidemics, is used for formulating the spread of Domestic Violence as a system of Differential Equations. Hence the population of three distinct classes- the Abusive, Susceptible/Unreported Victims, and the Reported Victims, are considered in the model. The system of Differential Equations is analyzed by linearization of nonlinear systems and non-dimensionlization, and to predict the behavior of the spread of the Domestic Violence. Finally, in the case of ...

Several biased estimation techniques have been developed to tackle the problem of multicollinearity. In this study, we proposed a new estimator based on prior information and the modified ridge-type estimator by Lukman et al. (2019). It includes the modified ridge-type (MRT) estimator, ridge estimator (RRE) and the ordinary least square estimator (OLSE) as special cases. We established the superiority of this new estimator (MRTP) over others using the mean squared error criterion. Finally, the superiority of the MRTP estimator was confirmed through a simulation study and its application to real-life data.

Due to their anatomical location in the pelvis, malignant ovarian transformations often evade early detection, reaching astronomical proportions before eliciting clinically obvious symptoms. Epithelial ovarian carcinomas encompass a concoction of tumours derived from the ovarian surface epithelium, and are further subdivided into several subtypes ascertained primarily through histopathological workup. Of these subtypes, endometrioid ovarian carcinoma is noted to be a particularly well-differentiated tumour that often presents early in the disease course. Contrarily, advanced-stage tumours manifest a vague constellation of symptoms, such as abdominal distension and bloating, resulting in dilatory tumour detection. We hereby delineate an interesting case of a high-grade ovarian endometrioid carcinoma that, due to its vague presenting symptoms and a concomitant history of amenorrhea, was erroneously regar...

Women are now four times more likely to have caesarean birth than 30 years ago. Caesarean section (CS) is a life saving procedure in cases of obstructed labour, maternal distress and fetal distress. Many countries have high rates of caeserean sections which exceeded the World Health Organization (WHO) recommended 5% -15%, thus putting a lot of burden on the health expenditures of government. The study utilized the Ghana Demographic Health Survey (GDHS) -2013 data set. The logistic model was used in the analysis of the data due to the outcome variables which are binary. Interestingly, mother’s level of education is also positively associated with caeserean delivery. Also, it was observed that highly educated mothers prefer caeserean delivery with odds ratio of about 1.24 times. The study recommends that government policies on education should ensure compulsory attainment of h...

Four liquid media namely brain heart infusion broth (BHI), trypticase soy broth (TSB), Mueller Hinton Broth (MHB) and Gonococci broth (GC) with added supplements (1% hemoglobin, 1% Isovitalex) were used. The growth was measured by colony counting (CFU/ml) using serial dilution. Four of the isolates showed the highest growth rate with the average of 10 13 CFU/ml on BHI broth while TSB had the second highest growth of more than 10 10 CFU/ml in an 18hour culture at 37 oC culture. In the next step, the amount of capsular polysaccharide (CPS-b) antigen which is made of Polyribosyl ribitol phosphate (PRP) was assessed all isolates by two methods: modified Indirect Sandwich Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and Bial method to select the isolate producing the highest amount of PRP. The antisera used in sandwich ELISA were prepared...

Various methods exist in literatures to handle this problem. Among them is the most widely used ridge regression estimator which depends on the ridge parameter. This estimator can be subdivided into either generalized ridge or ordinary ridge estimators. Variance inflation factor is introduced to replace eigenvalue in the generalized ridge estimator proposed by Lawless and Wang (1976). Through this modification some new generalized ridge parameters are proposed and investigated via simulation study. The performances of these proposed estimators are compared with the existing ones using mean square error. Results show that the proposed estimators perform better than the existing ones. It is evident that increasing the level of multicollinearity and number of regressors has positive effect on the MSE. Also, the performance of the estima...

In the developing nations with scarce healthcare resources, the reliance on healthcare workers who are amply prepared to withstand the prevailing scenario is indispensable. Our study aimed to assess the level of preparedness of doctors working in various hospitals across Pakistan to combat coronavirus disease 2019 . We conducted an online questionnaire-based survey in May 2020 to estimate the level of preparedness of doctors working in various departments of various private and public hospitals across Pakistan. The survey comprised 36 questions, with items evaluating the provision of adequate protective equipment, training, mental health resources, and sound collaboration between healthcare workers and the hospital management during the COVID-19 crisis. A total of 346 doctors responded to the survey, among whom 56.4% were working in public sector hospitals and 46.5% were working more than five days per week. Of those included, 87.6% were being provided with disposable gloves, but 72.8% and 43.4% of respondents professed to having no access to eye protective equipment and gowns, respectively. Only 35.3% of respondents claimed to be trained regarding the use of personal protective equipment and 28.95% were being tested. Of the physicians, 43.4% claimed to have no proper triage system for the suspected patients and 98.3% were concerned about transmitting the disease to their family members. Of the doctors, 53.5% reported that there was sound collaboration between the hospital management and healthcare staff. The survey provided evidence of inadequate delivery of personal protective equipment and training to doctors working in various hospitals across Pakistan. A sound collaboration between the hospital management and departments needs to be addressed.
