In Malaysia, the focus on sustainability in building, especially in devising policies has been spelled out in the government policies at national, state and local level. It can be considered that many efforts relating to sustainability in building project have been implemented in the country, however till now sustainability in Malaysian building projects are still remain without proven. It was revealed that most of the current frameworks of sustainability in the country are not equipped to handle sustainable building project. It is often encouraged environmental measure in most cases, yet the rest of measures are less promoted. To response to the issues, this study therefore aims to explore the sustainability principles of building through the review of relevant literatures. Content analysis is used to identify the principles in the sustainability literature relevant to building projects. A theoretical framework of sustainability principles of building was then formulated to be the main outcome of the study. The framework consists of a list of 29 sustainability principles of building to be taken into account throughout the project development process. The findings is very important to be a useful starting point for future study, especially for formulating a clear guide for the development of upcoming sustainable building projects to its actual meaning.

The level of complexities and innovation needed in this project are only possible through implementation of efficient sustainability integration strategies throughout the project planning process. In Malaysia, project planning process is sequential. Lack of integration in this process is believed to be a source of poor project performance and a major cause of adversarial relationships among project stakeholders. For that reason, this study attempts to explore the factors that enable sustainability to be integrated successfully into Malaysian building through the project planning process. The preliminary study in this research indicates 20 critical factors to integrate sustainability through the process. Using a case study method, this study shows that efficient sustainability integration factors throughout a project planning process will improve sustainability performance.

Therefore, a sustainable building project requires additional considerations on many aspects more than the conventional project. Although there are many researches on the paybacks of a sustainable building, nevertheless, huge numbers of barriers also contributes to the multiple failing of the projects within the market such as knowledge gaps, communication shortfall, ownership structure and operating cost responsibility, funding issues and the risks, and other technical and process issues. Many researchers believe that project planning process holds the strategic position in overcoming the barriers all together. This study proposes that there is a need to extend management practices for project management from a human-related factor by incorporating the cognitive styles in the decision-making process towards the accomplishment of a successful project. The study aims to introduce the concept of cognitive styles in decision making by project managers. Furthermore, it takes up a discussion on the definition and types and roles of cognitive styles by linking these styles with project manager's decision making behaviour. A questionnaire-based survey using Cognitive Style Instrument (CoSI), covering 110 project managers in the construction industry, was used to determine the cognitive styles among Malaysian project managers. The paper provides the empirical findings that reveal that Malaysian project managers used Cognitive Style on a daily basis in their project environment. Planning Style was the most preferred style, followed by Knowing Style and Creating Style. This study is significant both for researchers and practitioners to shed light upon the ways in which project managers organise and process information and make judgements from a psychological perspective. Moreover, this study contributes more generally to the evolving understanding of the human intellect process in project management. This paper introduces the concept of Cognitive Styles as an important human-related factor for project managers, contributing to the body of project manager's soft skills.

However, examining TFP alone is insufficient to identify the cause of TFP changes. Therefore, this paper employs the infrequently used Geometric Young Index (GYI) and stochastic frontier analysis (SFA) to measure and decompose the TFP Index (TFPI) at the firm-level from 2009 to 2018 based on Malaysian construction firms' data.Design/methodology/approachTo improve the TFPI estimation, normally unobserved environmental variables were included in the GYI-TFPI model. These are the physical operation of the firm (inland versus marine operation) and regional locality (West Malaysia versus East Malaysia). Consequently, the complete components of TFPI (i.e. technological, environmental, managerial, and statistical noise) can be accurately decomposed.FindingsThe results reveal that TFP change is affected by technological stagnation and improvements in technical eff...

The researcher has therefore designed this study to investigate the impact of urbanization, research and development R&D expenditure, infrastructure devel- opment and real income on the emission of carbon dioxide in Asian countries. The data collection process involved six Asian countries from 1997 and ending 2019. The panel data estimation and analysis tools and techniques were applied on the collected data and the results were obtained. The results of regression esti- mation suggest that as per MG estimator, all the variables have significant and positive impact on CO2 emission but infrastructure development has insignificant impact. In case of FMOLS, again all the variables have significant and positive impact on CO2 emis- sion but infrastructure development has insignificant impact. However, in case of DOLS, all the variables have shown significant impact on CO2 emission. In the last, DK estimator indicates that urbanization, real income and population density have significant and positive impact on CO2 emission but R&D expenditure and infrastructure development has insignificant impact. In this way, the impacts of all independent and control variables on CO2 emis- sion were estimated.
