Anecdotal evidence pointed to the vaccine effect on menstruation but evidence from the adverse event reporting systems and the biomedical literature was lacking. This study aimed to investigate the physiological changes in women during menstruation amid the COVID-19 vaccination.MethodsA cross-sectional online survey was distributed to COVID-19 vaccinated women from Nov 2021 to Jan 2022. The results were analyzed using the SPSS software.ResultsAmong the 564 vaccinated women, 52% experienced significant menstrual irregularities post-vaccination compared to before regardless of the vaccine type. The kind of menstrual irregularity varied among the vaccinated women, for example, 33% had earlier menstruation, while 35% reported delayed menstruation. About 31% experienced heavier menstruation, whereas 24% had l...

The purpose of this paper is to review the way in which ESD has been developed at universities in Japan. The paper also seeks to examine major patterns of education and research related to ESD at Japanese universities. Design/methodology/approach-The authors adopted two research approaches: a review of literature and electronic resources, mainly the web sites of universities, to present the overview of ESD at Japanese universities; and a questionnaire survey which analyzed responses from 18 undergraduate programs and 14 postgraduate programs at Japanese universities. Findings-The paper points out that the ESD implementation in higher education in Japan lacks coherence with other education reforms and is not linked with ESD at school and local levels. The paper also stresses that initial stages of ESD in Japan have prioritized environmental sustainability and have not yet adequately expanded to include wider issues concerning ESD. Moreover, the paper discusses that there is a lack of internal consensus to promote ESD and shared recognition inside universities, combined with a lack of effective guidance designed to enable students to acquire cross-disciplinary perspectives. Originality/value-There are many universities implementing ESD-related programs and activities in various countries. Yet, there has not been enough study done to reveal the constraints/problems universities are facing to promote ESD. This paper's originality and value addresses this research gap.

This study was conducted over one full semester among university teachers teaching undergraduate students with the rotation model at one federal university located in the United Arab Emirates. A case study design was used as a methodology to guide this research with a primary data collection method of semi-structured interviews of 11 teachers corroborated by both in-person and online classroom observations. Participating teachers were from various colleges within the university, including medicine, education, business, law, humanities, and science. The data from the interviews and observations were analyzed using thematic analysis, which yielded the following s...

The study sample consisted of 415 faculty members, and the data were collected in the second semester of 2021–2022. The results indicated that the degree of implementation of TQM in Jordanian universities and the level of community service were both high. There were no statistically significant distinctions in the degree of implementation of TQM related to faculty members’ gender, years of experience, and academic rank; however, significant differences were found related to the college and country of graduation variables. The findings also revealed the absence of statistically significant differences in gender, years ...

Hand held devices for rapid detection of pathogens have been proposed to be used by first responders. A magnetic sandwich immunoassay is developed for rapid isolation and detection of targeted pathogen. Escherichia coli BL21 Star (DE3) pLysS is used as a model in this study. The magnetic immunoassay takes advantage of the multiple epitopes that are found on the target. On one epitope a magnetic particle is attached. On another epitope a glucose molecule is attached. Glucometers have been designed with suitable accuracy to detect small amounts of glucose through the oxidation of glucose to gluconic acid at the site of platinum electrode. The sandwich magnetic assay that contains the glucose label can be easily correlated to the concentration of the Escherichia coli BL21 Star (DE3) pLysS.

The study followed the qualitative research approach by conducting task-based interviews with twenty-nine primary second grade students from different high, intermediate and low ability levels. Results of the study presented several strategies involved in the generalization of the patterns including visual, auditory, mental, finger counting, verbal counting, and traditional (paper and pencil) strategies. The findings revealed that the type of the assigned pattern (simple or complex) and the type of the structure of the pattern itself (increasing or decreasing) play a big role for students' strategies involved to either discover the rule of the pattern or to extend it. However, students in early ages could master several skills and choose appropriate procedures to deal with patterns, which indicate that they could develop their algebraic thinking from early stages. Findings of the study also revealed that using different senses, using the idea of coins, using the numbers line, recognizing musical sounds, using concrete materials like fingers, applying different visual and mental strategies, and even applying traditional calculations could help students to work with " linear patterns". It is recommended that teachers introduce different strategies and procedures in teaching patterns to meet the needs of students as different learners, give them the opportunities to develop their thinking strategies and explore their thoughts. More research is recommended to explore students' strategies involved in the generalization of different kinds of patters at different stages.

The process of promoting ESD programs in universities represents a complex task and understanding the different elements required in ESD at the university level is needed to facilitate that promotion. The purpose of this study was to understand the interaction of personal factors that influence University professors' ESD. This interaction was investigated through two case studies of environmental science professors at an American University. Data collection focused on individual university professors' thinking, beliefs, and teaching philosophies, their practices regarding ESD, as well as an examination of the broader historical and cultural context in which this ESD occurred. The findings showed that although ESD was a goal for both professors, neither was effective in achieving this goal. We argue that these professors fear of indoctrination and their views of teaching and learning prevented significant movement toward ESD. We argue that being consciously aware of the boundaries of acceptable pedagogical practice is essential if these professors are to move beyond providing "facts" and supporting their students in making sense of scientific information.

A total of 150 vocational students participated in the study by completing the Emotional Intelligence Scale (EIS). The results indicated that vocational students have an acceptable moderate level of emotional intelligence on the five dimensions. Moreover, there were no significant differences between dimensions of emotional intelligence and the proposed demographic variables (gender and area of specialization). Finally, several recommendations were suggested for improving emotional intelligence among vocational students that can contribute to better job performance.

A 30-item instrument, adapted from Dunkerly-Kolb (1998), was used to collect data from a sample of 230 preservice science and vocational teachers during the academic year 2005-2006. Results indicated that preservice science and vocational teachers showed medium level

Data were collected from 87 elementary science teachers by means of an open-ended questionnaire and later interviews with 4 teachers. Analysis of the responses indicated that teachers see reform as a necessity, but they lack a common understanding of the purpose of the reform in relation to their science teaching practices.

Currently available detection/diagnostic procedures are either time-consuming (8–48 h) and require enrichment and culturing of bacteria before testing, or provide only qualitative results. Magnetic
