The present study aimed at investigating and comparing the therapeutic effect of Adipose Mesenchymal Stem Cells (AMSCs) with SERCA2a gene modified AMSCs in diabetes type 1 induced cardiomyopathy of adult male albino rat. Materials and Methods: Twenty-nine adult male albino rats were divided into: Donor group of 2 rats used to obtain AMSCs. Group I (Control group): 6 rats not exposed to diabetes induction. Group II (Diabetic group): 7 rats injected with streptozotocin (STZ) 50mg/Kg once. Group III ((AMSCs group): 7 rats injected with AMSCs following induction of diabetes. Group IV (SERCA2a Modified AMSCs Group): 7 rats injected with SERCA2a modified AMSCs, following induction of diabetes. All rats were sacrificed 8 weeks from start of experiment. Results: Morphological changes, indicating inflammation and degeneration, were found in the cardiac muscle of diabetic rats and regressed remarkably by AMSCs and SERCA2a modified AMSCs. The regression of morphological changes was confirmed by histological, immunohistochemical, morphometric and serological studies. Conclusion: The therapeutic effect of SERCA2a modified AMSCs in diabetes type 1 cardiomyopathy was more remarkable than that of AMSCs.

Injectable PRF (i-PRF) is a liquid form of PRF containing more leucocyte and growth factors. I-PRF was used with great success in management of gingival recession and implant therapy. So the aim of the study was to evaluate the benefit of adding i-PRF to xenograft in management of periodontal intraosseous defects. Subjects and Methods: Twenty four patients (age range 36-59 years), with stage III periodontitis with at least one intrabony defect, probing pocket depth > 5 mm and radiographic evidence of vertical bone loss, were enrolled in the present study. The patients were equally divided into two groups, the test group (i-PRF and xenograft) and the control group (xenograft only). Probing depth (PD), clinical attachment level (CAL.), bone defect depth and bone density were recorded at baseline and after 6 months. Results: The results showed a statistical significant reduction in PD, gain in CAL, bone fill and change in bone density from preoperative to 6 months in each group separately. There was a statistical significant difference between test and control groups with mean and standard deviation (SD) of PD reduction (4.2±0.4; 3.3±0.7) and CAL gain (3.8±0.4 ; 2.9±0.8) respectively in favor of the test group. Regarding bone fill, there was no statistical significant difference between both groups with mean and SD (2.6±0.7; 2±0.8) respectively. As for the increase in bone density, there was a statistical significant difference between both groups with mean and SD (17.5±4.9 ;10.9±6.8) respectively. Conclusion: We can conclude that adding i-PRF to bone grafting material might have a beneficial impact in treatment of periodontal intraosseous defects.

They are transmembrane Calmodulin-like EF-hand Ca 2+-sensors, and a function in the control of Golgi-to-plasma membrane vesicle trafficking has been assigned to both proteins. In this paper, we describe the distribution of Calneuron-1 in rat and human brains. We show that Calneuron-1 is ubiquitously expressed in all brain regions examined. The protein is most abundant in Purkinje cells of the cerebellum and principal neurons of the cortex and limbic brain whereas no expression in glial cells is apparent. In addition, we identify two novel splice isoforms of Calneuron-1 with extended N-termini. These isoforms are particular abundant in the cerebellum. Taken together, these data set grounds for a better understanding of the cellular function of Calneurons.

Resveratrol (RES) is considered an interesting molecule in hormone dependent cancer therapy. Stem cell activation may induce less cardiomyocyte apoptosis, enhanced angiogenesis and increased proliferation of cardiomyocytes. Materials and Methods: Twenty seven adult male albino rats, were divided into: control group including 6 rats, group II (DOX group) including 7 rats that received intraperitoneal (IP) injection with DOX 3 mg /kg 3 times a week for 2 weeks. Group III (RES post-treatment group) included 7 rats that were injected with DOX followed by 50 mg/Kg RES daily orally for another 2 weeks. Group IV (RES pretreatment group) included 7 rats that were injected with DOX and received concomitantly 50 mg/Kg RES daily orally for 2 weeks and left untreated for another 2 weeks. By the end of the 4 th week all animals were sacrificed. Cardiac muscle specimens were subjected to histological, immunohistochemical, morphometric and serological studies. Results: Myocardial injury appeared as obvious congestion, apoptosis, degeneration, increased collagen fibers content, obvious caspase3 expression and minimal proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA) +ve and CD44 +ve expression in DOX group. Regression of the previous changes was more remarkable in group IV than in group III except for PCNA and CD44 expression that was more obvious in both treatment groups. Conclusion: RES proved amelioration of DOX induced myocardial injury that was more noticeable in RES early administration. RES post-treatment might have been more efficient if longer duration was applied.
