Although on the surface-level it would seem the same lesson material could be taught in any setting, the influence of a specific culture on its people demands that a teacher possess understanding of those particular cultural dynamics in order to reach a deeper level of changing values and beliefs in the lives of the students. This position paper looks specifically at some principles required to effectively teach Bible-college level material as would be needed for an American instructor teaching in Ghana, West Africa. The majority of this paper focuses particularly on the three specific areas of Philosophy of Christian Higher Education, Principles of Inter-Cultural Communication, and Necessity for Critical Contextualization. Research from other sources is incorporated into this position paper, as well as insight gained from the researcher’s personal experiences of teaching in Ghana and in the US.
