This transition may affect a retired person’s physical, mental, and social health and lead to psychological problems. This study investigated the effects of Yoga on the well-being of retired men. It was a nonrandomized study involving 90 retired men aged 60–75 years following purposive sampling. The 14-week intervention included a daily session of 90 minutes at a yoga training center in Pune, India. Each session comprised light exercises, loosening, breathing exercises, relaxation, and meditation. Ryff’s validated scale was used to measure psychological well-being in six domains. The data were analyzed using a t-test. Integrated yoga practice showed a significant improvement in well-being ( p < .05), proving Yoga can be useful for improving the psychological well-being of retired people. The findings of this study should be implemented in a larger group of people for assessing and improving psychological well-being.

The total sample of 744 was collected by purposive sampling method within clusters. The tools used were Comprehensive Quality of Life scale (Robert A. Cummins 1997) and Life Satisfaction Scale (LSS), developed at Jnana Prabodhini's Institute of Psychology (2001). Data was analyzed using ANOVA (One Way) for group comparisons. In the overall factual quality of Life (F-QOL), significant differences were found on the dimension of health, productivity, safety, intimacy, emotional well-being, material well-being and place in community. Material Well Being and place in community were considerably low for all the three groups. For satisfaction dimension of quality of Life (S-QOL), significant differences were found on all the dimensions of Cummins' QOL. Though score on material well-being seems to be low on factual level it is not reflected in perceived satisfaction with the same. While the factual dimension of safety is at a relatively better position in all the three dimensions, the respective perceived satisfaction seems to be very low in CISF and State Police. In the different dimensions of Life Satisfaction, few significant differences are obtained on economic, socio spiritual and total life satisfaction scores. ITBP is the highest on total or composite satisfaction, followed by CISF and then State Police. The findings have been studied under the light of relevant literature.

With the evolution of culture marriage became a lifelong sacrament (Russell, 1929). Breaking the marital relationship became a social stigma (Datar, 1988). Marriage got defined as 'a social arrangement based on a contract, including recognition of the rights and duties of parenthood, common residence for husband, wife, children and reciprocal economic obligations (Stephen, 1963).The system of marriage proved to be beneficial in terms of satisfying the security and belongingness needs and challenging it became an unfavorable step. They require the affiliation to others in order to protect their physical as well as psychological existence. Abraham Maslow (1954) in his 'Hierarchy of needs' describes it as a vital need for progressing in life. He has termed it as 'need for love and belongingness.' Both these words have an important role in individual's life. They talk not only about the people who generally coexist in the world with us, but indicate towards some 'special' ones whom we consider as subsets of our lives. They may be members of kinship (blood relatives) or members of intimate friend circle or other people who have a direct influence on our lives. Formal relationships lie on the outer circle of an individual's social hemisphere and they have little or indirect influence on his/her life. However, intimate relations are more informal in nature, more vital as individual identifies with them and has deep involvement in the gains ...
