This study aimed to explore outcome measures used in defining AIS treatment success. Particularly, analyzing the extent of radiographic and quality of life domains used and whether AIS treatment approaches (surgical, bracing, physiotherapy etc.) influences outcomes used as proxies of treatment success. Methods EMBASE and MEDLINE databases were used to conduct a systematic scoping review with 158 papers screened for data extraction. Extractable variables included: study characteristics, study participant characteristics, type of study, type of intervention approach and outcome measures. Results All 158 studies measured quantitative outcomes. 61.38% of papers used radiographic outcomes whilst 38.62% of papers used quantitative quality of life outcomes to evaluate treatment success. Irrespective of treatme...

The experiment was performed on 96 volunteer undergraduate students taking an introductory course in psychology. The participants took part in a 2 x 3 (Hemisphere: left, right x Tone of Voice: positive, neutral, negative) Mixed Factorial Design to measure how much a person was persuaded. Results showed that the hemisphere of the brain and the tone of voice used did not significantly affect the results individually. Furthermore, there was no interaction effect. Therefore, the hemispheres of the brain and the tone of voice employed play insignificant roles in persuading a person.

Building on a framework I call nonencounters—the comparative study of texts and contexts based on the absence of connectivity—I trace unexpected points of connection seemingly disparate and unrelated histories of twentieth century discourses on race and racism through a critical study of discourses in intellectual history, literature, and cinema. Beginning in the mid-1920s, prominent male intellectuals in both regions concurrently developed what were framed as antiracist critiques of European and Anglo-American white supremacy, proposing new world orders that challenged Eurocentric notions about cultural, national, and racial identity. Yet, even as they argued for the redefinition of cultural nationalisms based on ethnic and regional inclusivity, these critiques were often paradoxically received and taken up in the nationalistic politics of the late 1930s and 40s. Through its cross-archival study of the role of antiracist thought in shaping cultural and national identity during the twentieth century, my dissertation project opens up an unanticipated history of cross-cultural dialogues and shared traditions in modern intellectual and literary trends. Nevertheless, I argue that these intellectual histories of antiracism must be read through their context as chauvinistic exchanges that occurred in the exclusion of marginalized voices—in particular, in the exclusion of women’s voices—and thereby signal the absence of other encounters in the shaping of what we can call global modernity. Analyzing diverse visual and textual media, I ask: How does the consideration of race as interlocked with gender destabilize the way that we study global modernity? What futures can we imagine if we think about the relationship among intellectual production, nationalism, and empire through the vantage points of comparison and dislocation? In grappling with these questions, this dissertation emphasizes the importance of work that engages transnational feminist literary and theoretical practices as the guiding frameworks for critical response. Arguing for a more expansive definition of what it means to compare literary and historical contexts usually relegated to the nation-bound models of area studies, Transpacific Nonencounters examines how understanding the gendered legacies of intellectual production as embedded in the entangled traumatic histories of imperialism and racism may reveal new venues for disciplinary disruption. Through a dedicated comparative lens, this project extends debates in critical studies on Asia and Latin America that engage the limits of area studies frameworks while contributing to conversations in critical race studies, gender and feminist theory, and transpacific studies.2023-08-2

As such, this edited volume offers expansive reflections around practices and methodologies in transpacific scholarship to build historical bridges and dialogues among aesthetic, political, and cultural thematic between contexts that are not usually considered together.

The monitoring systems that are currently used as part of the management of construction projects... more The monitoring systems that are currently used as part of the management of construction projects consist of collecting the field information, documenting it manually and then digitizing it. Those responsible for carrying out the reports through this procedure dedicate between 28% and 41% of their time daily for their preparation. This traditional process is slow and inefficient because the information is dispersed in different documents, so data can be omitted, causing that no corrective actions are taken in a timely manner. Likewise, the construction sector has little use of technological resources, and therefore, there is no automated process, which makes it difficult to monitor construction projects in an efficient way. In this sense, this research establishes the optimization of the control procedure through the use of a data acquisition tool to reduce the man-hours used in advance control. With the application of this proposal, the hours spent by the personnel involved in project management were reduced by 30%.

There are three types of adipocytes differentiated by their characteristics: white, brown and beige. The brown and beige adipocytes have the ability to release energy as heat through a process called thermogenesis. As an alternative to the pathology of obesity, it is important to develop factors that promote the increase in number and activity of the brown and beige adipocytes, being more important for us, the adipocyte beige because it shares deposits with white adipose tissue. Previous studies have shown the different effects of growth hormone (somatotropin) in adipose tissue as lipolysis, preadipocyte differentiation and expression of UCP-1 protein to increase thermogenesis in brown adipose tissue. Therefore, the objective of this work was to determine the effect of growth hormone in the differentiation of preadipocytes cell line 3T3-L1 to beige...

As established healthcare professionals, physical therapists are well positioned to be clinically competent in patient education to effect long-term lifestyle behaviour change, to improve health and physical therapy outcomes. A scoping systematic review was conducted to identify educational strategies used by physical therapists and their attributes to prevent, reverse and manage lifestyle-related conditions. Stringent search strategies of related databases and research mining identified eight source studies. Heterogeneity of the studies disallowed pooling of the results and meta-analysis. Attributes of commonly-reported educational strategies included: theories (e.g., transtheoretical model and 5A's approach); timing (e.g., pre-and post-assessments and follow-up); session structure (e.g., brief advice, one-on-one, group and telephone); technique (e.g., motivational prompts, individualised programmes and goal-setting); and delivery method (e.g., brochures, diaries, audiovisual or video, handouts and skills demonstrations). Educational strategies related to lifestyle-related conditions used by physical therapists and their attributes vary. Observational studies need to confirm these findings clinically. Also, the cost-effectiveness of the education strategies used by
