These parameters were obtained through environmental vibration tests performed “in situ” and the identification of the dynamic properties was performed in the frequency domain using the peak-peaking technique. The identification of the natural frequencies allowed the analysis of the influence of some geometrical parameters of the bridges and the relationship between these and the frequency range of the excitation source.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Identification of the dynamic properties could be an important parameter to evaluate the response of such bridges to actual traffic loads and to update numerical models used to study its structural response. Thus, this paper presents a expedite method to determine vertical natural frequencies for a set of several masonry arch bridges located in Bragança district, Portugal. The dynamic properties were obtained through environmental vibration tests allowing to identify the dynamic properties in the frequency domain. The identification of the natural frequencies allowed the analysis of the influence of some geometrical parameters of the bridges and the relationship between these and the frequency range of the excitation source. As pontes em arco de alvenaria são geralmente obras antigas de interesse histórico e patrimonial,... more As pontes em arco de alvenaria são geralmente obras antigas de interesse histórico e patrimonial, construídas com base em conhecimentos empíricos para um nível de tráfego bastante diferente daquele que hoje se verifica em estruturas deste tipo. A vibração induzida pela ação do tráfego na ponte, associada à deterioração natural dos materiais ao longo do tempo e à possibilidade de não ter ocorrido manutenção da estrutura durante esse período, potenciam a ocorrência de deformações e/ou patologias estruturais que podem comprometer a segurança destes equipamentos. O estudo apresentado neste trabalho baseia-se na determinação de alguns parâmetros dinâmicos, nomeadamente frequências próprias associadas a modos de vibração verticais para um conjunto de trinta e três pontes em arco localizadas no distrito de Bragança. Masonry arch bridges are structures that have complex behavior, despite being essentially old structures, they are still functional and constitute an important number of European bridges that require inspection and monitoring. The aim of the present study is to apply an expeditious approach of ambient vibration measurement to masonry arch bridges to define the first vertical frequency and the associated damping ratio, the main characteristic of the expeditious methods is the ease and speed of execution, thus providing technical information for preliminary inspections on the structure. The expeditious approach was applied to 28 masonry arch bridges which have distinct geometric characteristics, inserted in the road structure of the district of Bragança Portugal.
