The purpose of the present study was to compare the clinical course, and prognosis, between this type of tumor and poorly differentiated ductal carcinoma. Patients and methods We analyzed 37 cases of metaplastic carcinoma of the breast treated at our institution (European Institute of Oncology in Milan, Italy) between 1997 and 2004, comparing them with 72 cases (control group) of poorly differentiated ductal carcinoma. All 109 patients had negative receptors and were G3 at final histology. The control cases were matched according to year of surgery, pT (pT1 vs. pT2/3/4), and pN (absent vs. present). Results Of the 37 patients, eleven died from disease progression, eight developed metastatic disease and two experienced local recurrence. In the control group (72 patients) we observed three deaths due to disease progression, 13 distant metastases, and two local recurrences. Conclusion The overall survival in the metaplastic carcinoma group was significantly worse than in the control group. As regards to disease-free survival, there was no statistically significant difference between the two groups.

Such computational systems use high-capacity programmable logic devices and are based on processing units customized to the requirements of a particular application. A great deal of research effort in this area is aimed at accelerating the solution of combinatorial optimization problems. Special attention was given to the Boolean satisfiability (SAT) problem resulting in a considerable number of different architectures being proposed. This paper presents the state-of-the-art in reconfigurable hardware SAT satisfiers. The analysis of existing systems has been performed according to such criteria as reconfiguration modes, the execution model, the programming model, etc.

It is shown that such model is very efficient for the considered scope. It follows from two important characteristics of combinatorial problems. Firstly, each particular problem requires very limited number of taskspecific operations that have to be repeated a huge number of times. Secondly, majority of operations is unique, i.e. task-oriented. The proposed specification method is based on graphical language that extends hierarchical graph-schemes.

There is a need for tools that permit a reduction in the programming efforts, aiming at the generation of modular and robust applications, and promoting software reuse. The techniques which are of common use today in other areas are not adequate to deal with the complexity associated with these systems. In this work we present CoolBOT, a component oriented framework for programming robotic systems, based on the Port Automata model that fosters controllability and observability of software components. A simple demonstrator outlines the bene ts of using the proposed approach in the development of a robotic application.

With the aid of these tools we can implement a system that requires some, hardware resources Rc, on available hardware that has resources Rh, where Rc>Rh. The main idea of the approach supported by these tools is the rational combination of FPGA capabilities with some proposed methods for producing a modifiable specification, together with a novel technique for architectural and logic synthesis, which has been incorporated into the new design environment
