Urotensin II (UT II) is the most potent vasoconstrictor peptide. The aim of the study was to investigate the relationship between UT II and arterial stiffness (AS) and atherosclerosis in ADPKD patients. Material and Methods: 55 ADPKD patients with a mean age of 50±14.4 years. The presence of AS was determined with brachial-ankle pulse wave velocity (baPWV) and the presence of atherosclerosis was determined with carotid artery intima-media thickness (CA-IMT). Plasma UT II levels were determined by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Results: Mean log10 UT II was 0.92±0.16 ng/mL. 12 (10.9%) patients had LVH. Mean baPWV and CA-IMT were 7.65±1.5 m/sec and 0.63±0.13 mm, respectively. Log10 UT II (p=0.009), baPWV (p < 0.001) and CA-IMT (p=0.001) were high in patients compared to healthy individuals. There was an independent relationship between log10 UT II and creatinine (p=0.044) and spot urine protein-creatinine ratio (UPCR) (p=0.026) in multiple regression analysis. There was no relationship between log10 UT II and baPWV and CA-IMT. Conclusion: High plasma UT II levels were observed in ADPKD patients compared to healthy individuals. There was a relationship between UT II and kidney dysfunction and proteinuria. There was no relationship between UT II and AS and atherosclerosis.

We conducted a subgroup analysis in ASPECT-NOAC study to determine anticoagulant discontinuation pattern in AF patients with recently initiated NOAC therapy. Methods ASPECT-NOAC was a national, multicenter, 12-month observational study conducted in 34 outpatient cardiology clinics of state, university, private, and research hospitals covering all geographic regions of Turkey. Adult AF patients who were under NOAC therapy for less than four months were enrolled. Patients who discontinued using their NOACs were recorded at the end of 12 months. A comparative analysis of patients with discontinuation of medication was conducted. Results This study included 991 non-valvular AF patients. NOAC continuation data were available for 854 patients. During study follow-up, 74 patients (8.7%) discontinued their NOAC medication. Mean age of these patients was 67.1±11.3 years old and 38 patients (51.4%) were female. Mo...

Fibroblast growth factor 23 (FGF23) is thought to be a phosphaturic hormone that causes mortality in hemodialysis patients. The purpose of our study was to determine the association of intact FGF23 (I-FGF23) with atherosclerotic peripheral vascular complications in patients on hemodialysis. Methods: This cross-sectional study was performed with 50 [28 (56%) male, 22 (44%) female] hemodialysis patients. Patient characteristics were compared with an age +-and sex-matched control group of 40 healthy volunteers. Atherosclerosis development was measured by carotid intima media thickness (CIMT) and arterial stiffness development was measured by brachial ankle pulse wave velocity (PWV) device. Results: Increased atherosclerosis and arterial stiffness were observed in patients with high I-FGF23 and low alpha klotho (α-KL) levels compared to healthy subjects. I-FGF23 showed an inverse and independent relationship between lipid profile. There was no relationship between I-FGF23 and atherosclerosis and arterial stiffness.
