According to existing studies, the popularity of teaching jobs is decreasing. Considering the sig... more According to existing studies, the popularity of teaching jobs is decreasing. Considering the significance of teaching, without which other professions cannot develop efficiently, it is important to assess how acute the problem is and to try to offer some solutions to it. Another goal of the study was to try to develop recommendations on how to raise teaching jobs' reputation and thus contribute to the improvement of the situation. The goal of the given study, which is a part of three surveys, was to find out students' views on the prestige of teaching jobs. The main question was 'Is teaching prestigious?' An online survey applying a self-made questionnaire was held in Georgia, Azerbaijan, Iraq, and USA with 657 respondents (122 + 362 + 102 +71, consequently). The conclusion was made that the respondents' attitude towards teachers in these countries is reasonably positive, however, not many of them are planning to become teachers. It was recommended that to increase the prestige of teaching jobs it is necessary, first of all, to raise the quality of teaching, as well as to stimulate book and movie authors and mass media to present the profession to the public more often and positively.

Traditional teaching methods changed their nature and moved to a new stage through integrating modern technologies. Particularly in the COVID-19 period, the situation has forced educational institutions to go online on a global scale. The goal of this paper is to measure teachers' attitudes towards remote learning in Azerbaijan. The study also aims to analyze the necessity of the Blended Learning approach during the pandemic period. A quantitative method was applied in data collection. The questionnaire was prepared in Google forms, with multiple-choice and checkboxes types of questions. The link to the survey was introduced to the teachers of five different private educational centers in the Absheron peninsula (Baku, Khirdalan, and Sumgayit) via social media messaging platforms (mainly WhatsApp and Telegram). Data collected was illustrated visually in the form of a table and was discussed in detail. The questionnaire that was conducted on 147 teachers reveals that advancement and improvement of digital innovations could be face-threatening and arduous for instructors whose current and future students are more and more digital natives (were born in the Information and Communication Technology world). The presented study addresses the concept of blended learning and analyzes the literature on the issue under a study. Furthermore, the article highlights the necessity of blended learning in the process of transition to online education. The research concludes that teacher-subjects do not advocate e-learning, so blended learning would be beneficial to keep the balance between online and in-class education.

The purpose of the current study is to determine Azerbaijani EFL learners' attitude towards Engli... more The purpose of the current study is to determine Azerbaijani EFL learners' attitude towards English as foreign language writing skills. Apart from this, the presented study aims at measuring the level of motivation in EFL writing classes. To generate an accurate result, a quantitative research conducted among 360 undergraduate students at different universities in Azerbaijan. The findings revealed that compared to other EFL skills, writing is considered as the least interesting one. It is also demonstrated that although learners are conscious about the significance of the writing skill, the majority of them do not find teaching techniques, activities, and in general EFL writing classes motivating.

By distance learning we understand an educational situation in which a teacher and his/her studen... more By distance learning we understand an educational situation in which a teacher and his/her students are not placed in one physical environment. Distance learning was first applied in the 19 th century and has undergone a long way of technological improvement. It has become indispensable in the time of global pandemic. It is characterized by both advantages and challenges, and, correspondingly, in normal situations is used by adults for additional education or at any level /age in combination with traditional face-to-face education. The goal of this paper is to assess how ready we turned out to be to involuntary, caused by extreme situation of coronavirus, switching over to distance learning. The article presents results obtained from six countries-Azerbaijan, Georgia, Iraq, Nigeria, UK, and Ukraine-as well as some views of educators from several other countries. Although the samples were not representative by number of the research populations, they tried to take into consideration the strata involved (school/university teachers, younger than 30, 31-50, older than 50), in order to be trustworthy. The conclusion made is that the trend is that we (at least, in many countries, or many of us) are still rather far from ready to carry out so often declared and advertised distance learning with optimal efficiency and much work is needed to be able to switch to high-quality distance education.

In addition, films have the potential to provide language learners audio and visual stimuli; therefore they are essential tools in the development of foreign language proficiency. The present study aims at exploring the effectiveness of films as authentic materials on language learning. The questionnaire that was conducted on 80 undergraduate students in this study yielded that films can foster language learning.

Using movies in English classes has become the interest of many teachers and educators, as films are believed to be very effective, appealing and motivating authentic materials. Filmic approach somehow creates a natural English language teaching (ELT) environment in the classroom and makes the instruction of English enjoyable, particularly in terms of learners. Mixing motion pictures and online technologies both of which have a very crucial role in students' life, would be fun and innovative. This study focused on teaching writing through the use of films and contemporary educational technologies among undergraduate learners. The action research was designed at Qafqaz University in Azerbaijan among 32 intermediate level students in the School of Languages. The learners were divided into experiment and control groups which were almost at the same English proficiency levels. The research involved a questionnaire consisting of 10 questions with participation of 32 learners. The study is expected to be helpful for English teachers in terms of employing movies and online technologies effectively in writing classes, not to mention it is likely be a helpful material for further researchers in this field.

To get the required data, the researcher applied to the questionnaire. The survey took place at Qafqaz University (Current Baku Engineering University). By and large, 442 learners participated in this questionnaire with different English levels and class profile. The result of this investigation has revealed that modern technologies have become an integral part of the overwhelming majority of Azerbaijani undergraduate students. The findings also indicate that undergraduate students in Azerbaijan have a high potential to learn English through Web 2.0 technologies.
