The core objective of this analysis is to provide a comprehensive picture on the current stance w... more The core objective of this analysis is to provide a comprehensive picture on the current stance within Libya, where the ongoing civil war over the past years has developed to be an exceedingly complex issue as a result of the varying interests and strategies. The study aims to point out how domestic participants utilize emerged conflicts of interest among foreign actors in order to foster the enforcement of their own goals. As part of this, similarities as well as differences between the strategic toolsets and targets of international actors present in Libya are going to constitute the scope of investigation in order to present the background of the disparate assumption of risk and room for movement. Whereas the evaluation of roles in the Libyan conflict composes the focus of this work, the minimal addition of regional context is necessary for the understanding of recent developments. It is an often-committed mistake that the currently still ongoing war in Libya is being associate... more It is an often-committed mistake that the currently still ongoing war in Libya is being associated with Qadhafi’s removal in some way. Finding a comprehensive analysis with sources on development of the society itself is not common even today. However, as this work is going to prove, examining this issue from the Ottoman era is more than essential. Regulations and relations amongst tribes living in the three major territories evolved during the centuries, but their development curve is hardly comparable to e.g. European countries’. The purpose of this article is to show that the current civil war is fundamentally still a domestic issue, even if throughout the past five years it became exceedingly more international in nature

Ehhez a kezdeti éveket követően egy széles körű külső szerepvállalások is járultak. Utóbbiak mértéke és természete között markáns különbségek fedezhetők fel. A jelenkorban oly elterjedt proxyelemekkel rendelkező összecsapások számos komparatív előnyüknek köszönhetően közvetlenül és lényegesen befolyásolják a MENA-régió legsúlyosabb konfliktusait. Több tanulmány született arról, hogyan képesek külső szereplők pénzügyi, politikai, diplomáciai, katonai vagy hírszerzési arzenáljukat felhasználni rejtett agendájuk megsegítésére, hírnevük lényegi megsértése nélkül. This article is going to examine how recent trends in international politics have affected Libya’... more This article is going to examine how recent trends in international politics have affected Libya’s post— Qaddhafi era. As part of an increase of tension among actors, as well as due to the country’s unfortunate domestic situation, Libya became a venue of international power politics. Arguably, realist-perspectives have not prevailed so much since the end of the bipolar world and as part of this, seeking influence over this fragile country has manifested on various occasion by different actors. Strategically speaking, Libya would be an important piece in all the major states’ and alliances’ plans in order to alter regional balance of power in their favor. Most of these same actors are interested in Libyan crude oil, the country’s most important export. Additionally, security-related risks have promoted this issue to a global level. The status quo of today’s Libya is a complex maze almost impossible to comprehensively conceive d... more The status quo of today’s Libya is a complex maze almost impossible to comprehensively conceive due to the many interlinked connections and interests. The initial promises of the Arab Spring movements were hardly met, which resulted in some states’ enhanced criticism on the dissolution of the former status quo. As the hegemon of the international arena, the United States became less predictable in following its doctrine, instability arose region-wide, which provided an opportunity for other actors to step up. The Russian Federation and the Peoples Republic of China were both hit negatively by the escalation of events and eventual removal of Qadhafi. Historically speaking, both had beneficial relationships with the North African country and current trends show persisting demand motivated by strategic, commercial and political interests.
