Much attention is paid to the motivation especially in the psychology of work. If we look at the strategy of successful companies, we find that their management are trying to incorporate complex mechanisms to encourage their employees to give maximum performance. If we look at the teaching of mathematics, where the teacher works in a similar role as the company management, we find that these methods are usually not used. There are many reasons why the performance of the students is not satisfactory, but the vast majority of students suffer from a lack of motivation. In mathematics, more emphasis is placed on content than on form. Hence mathematics for students becomes incomprehensible and unattractive subject. One possibility to change the attitudes of students is the use of motivational incentives. In this paper, we provide strategies for stimulating students to learn course content. We mention some well-known motivation techniques that can be used to affect the students' attitude to learning mathematics. Most important contribution to increasing the motivation of students is the attitude of the teacher. We provide several effective motivation principles that we use in our teaching practice.

We developed the new model for computation of the changeover effect. It is based on the comparison of the inflation in state that adopted Euro with average inflation in other states that are geographically near the evaluated state and have similar economics. To capture long-term impact of Euro introduction on inflation we monitored the inflation for 18 months: 6 months before Euro introduction and 12 months after it. We observed that the biggest changeover effect in 18 months was in Estonia. The inflation was 2.53% bigger than the average inflation in benchmark states. Similarly, the changeover effect in Malta was 1.08%, 1.86% in Slovenia and 0.93% in Cyprus. We did not observe any changeover effect in Latvia nor Slovakia. We also formed three regression models to predict the behavior of inflation in 2015. We used them to estimate the total inflation in Lithuania, the last state that a...

Research paper thumbnail of Logit Model for Estimating Non-Profit Organizations’ Financial Status as a Part of Non-Profit Financial Management

However, most non-profit organizations (NPO) are financially dependent on various donors from the private sector. Nowadays, non-profit organizations focus on improving their non-profit financial management. This research aims to assess the financial status of Slovak non-profit organizations, using binary logistic regression. The initial sample includes 351 Slovak NPOs, which are divided into a training and test sub-sample. The data were obtained from Amadeus, FinStat, the Ministry of Finance of the Slovak Republic, and the Ministry of Interior of the Slovak Republic. The logit model shows that the significant variables are equity ratio, debt ratio, operating margin, and type of NPO using the statistical–analytical program IBM SPSS 25. The model also implies that non-profit organizations should focus on th...

The main question is whether high levels of road and railway transport in areas along navigable waterways is an effective solution for this issue. The Danube waterway is an example. Generally, it is not observed that traffic performance is not as high as on the Rhine. This paper deals with the revelation of the available capacity of this waterway based on approximation functions and their comparison with real transport performances. This methodology points to the level of use of waterways. The connection of this model with the production of fossil fuels creates a basis for a case study. The case study in this paper offers a possibility for a sustainable and environmentally friendly transition from road transport to inland water transport on the example of specific transport routes. The main contribution of this paper is a presentation of the application of sustainable models of use transport capacity to increase the sh...

Nowadays, maritime transport plays a very important role mainly in transoceanic container transport. It also deals with the statistics focused on container shipping, especially between North America and Europe. These statistics contribute to a general description of the development of container shipping on the route that is applicated in this case study. The significant impact of this kind of transport also reflects the estimation of the future development of container transport on the selected transport route. In this view, the least square method is used in this paper. This method can present the trend of development according to statistics. Thanks to these materials, this paper estimates a slight increase of the number of containers transported between North America and Europe in the near future. This incr...
